I hope this turns out well, and I'm optimistic, but I still feel like it is a story that didn't need telling.

For all those who misread it as Danny Glover, I got ya beat- this is the first time I realized they were actually two different people to begin with.

Definitely unfortunate, but I think after The Force Awakens and Rogue One, Kathleen Kennedy has built up some trust in her decision making.

I'm guessing that the Han Solo movie gets pushed back to December 2018 and that either Avengers Infinity war gets delayed a couple of weeks or the Incredibles 2's release gets moved forward to Memorial Day weekend

Just give it to Donald Glover. He's shown he's a creative mind in his own right. Or let Dave Filoni have a crack at it. Sure, he's mostly your animated braintrust but, I'd be fascinated to see what he could do with a live action movie.
I wonder if this also means Trevarrow is also on the chopping block after the disaster that was The Book of Henry. Probably not, the cast seems to love Trevarrow so, he's going nowhere.

Honestly, not a good sign. Lord and Miller are really, really talented directors with very unique visions in their films. So my guess if KK and company went "it's not Star Wars-y enough.." regardless, a shame. Them being directors was one of the biggest aspects that had me pumped for this flick.

Part of me wonders if they were filming "han shot first" style and Kennedy wanted "good guy Han"

See also, Edgar Wright and AntMan Disney is very serious about staying on-brand. And rightfully so. But it easily clashes with directors who want to actually direct in their own style. I think Disney just likes having "auteur" directors for the "creative street cred" but doesn't actually want their creative voice.

Well there goes my interest in this movie. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are some of my favorite filmmakers and the new Star Wars films have been painfully average so far. Holding out on my last remaining hope For Last Jedi

Part of me wonders if they were filming "han shot first" style and Kennedy wanted "good guy Han" Wouldn't surprise me. Kathleen Kennedy is, by all accounts, fiercely loyal to George Lucas and his "final vision" for Star Wars. She's been adamant not messing with George's final cuts to the original triology. You'll hear the same thing from everyone at Lucasfilm now. Kennedy, Hidalgo, Chee, Martin, Filoni. They all will defend any criticism people have for Lucas' decisions over the past decade or so. So if indeed Lord and Miller were writing OG Han and not Lucas' Han, that was NEVER going to fly. What's strange is that the studio execs have been so involved with Episode 7, Rogue One, and the Han Solo film but everything I'm hearing is that they had no leash for Rian Johnson. To the point where some of the cast of the Last Jedi were voicing initial objections to what he wrote because it strayed too far from how they thought their characters should be written. Not to mention the fact that even though improvisation seemed to be an issue here, Laura Dern flat out said that was encouraged on the Episode 8 set. All that craziness is part of the reason a lot of people I know are excited for TLJ. And there have been no reports of extensive reshoots so, I don't get it. Why so pedantic here when Rian Johnson and co. were given all this leeway to work with. Why are these cases so different? From the sounds of things it'll be either Lawrence Kasden, Ron Howard, or Joe Johnston who are going to be taking the helm.

Holding out on my last remaining hope For Last Jedi If Rian keeps his game up, it's all downhill after TLJ. Episode IX will be entertaining at best with Trevorrow at the helm.

It's, once again, another case of movie studios hiring people who were successful for being ultra creative then being shocked they're ultra creative.
It's ridiculous that we have to go through this song and dance with big productions like this every few months, justified or not.

I think Disney just likes having "auteur" directors for the "creative street cred" but doesn't actually want their creative voice. It probably also has a lot to do with working within a shared universe like Star Wars where so many things have to stay consistent and cohesive not just in the movies, but in supplementary material. They're erring on the side of caution, I think, because they don't want things to end up like the Legends EU did where you had a lot of different conflicting stories and characters having wildly different personalities depending on the medium. It ultimately means less adventurous movies but then outside of VFX work, Star Wars has never exactly been avant garde film-making to begin with. Though for all the noise about Disney interfering with Rogue One to make it a "light-hearted adventure," it turned out to be all junk as that was probably the bleakest Star Wars movie ever made.
