Okay Kershaw is getting wrecked and I am bored
Which story did you prefer. Death note was a great ride in the first half and then it faded when they tried to retread the story with lesser characters in my opinion. Light vs L will always be a go to duel and one of the reasons why I can rewatch it every other year. It is a great ride when you watch it for the first time
Code Geass story as a whole kept me interested through the whole series and it was very strong in having you care about the characters and their motivations. Lelouch was a great main and I did enjoy how he was presented with flaws but was able to press on through intellect and will. Truthfully I enjoyed this ending more than Death Note even if it is left up to its own interpretation.
Your thoughts?

I tried to get into Death Note, but it seemed to get really bogged down in its 'I know you know that I know that you know' type thing.
"Ah, if you do this, you mut be Kira." "Ah, but I didn't do that, so I'm not Kira." "Ah, but by not doing that thing, it proves that you can be Kira as only Kira would spot the trap." "Ah, but by not doing the thing, I prove I'm not Kira because Kira wouldn't have spotted the trap."
I mean... just kick him in the dick. Kick him in the dick until he squeals. The Punisher has this stuff figured out, why don't you?

I love both shows, for differing reasons.
Part of the appeal of Code Geass for me is how many stereotypical anime tropes it's filled with. The constantly moving plot, heavily stylized character designs with colorful hairstyles, the mechs, the fan service, the scene where Lelouch, Suzaku and co. are dressed like cats, it's nuts and I love it. It forever made me a Johnny Yong Bosch fan.

Brad Swaile as Light Yagami did very well too. The perfect voice for him.

The Punisher has this stuff figured out, why don't you? I get what you are saying and it can be frustrating. The whole point of that was L had a certain line he wouldn't across even though he bugged Lights room and had a special agent follow him around constantly. That line he wouldn't cross plays into the ending with Near and Mello

The conflict between L and Light started too early and went on for too long. I am fine with the ending because Light had been warned from the beginning that was going to happen. He was too full of hubris to realize he couldn't control everything. I did like a lot of subversions we got early on of protagonists in these sorts of stories.
I think I lean Geass just since I liked C.C. and an episode revolved around giant pizza.

As someone who just finished Death Note, all I can say is f*** Near. I already knew the ending before even watching the series but I was still hoping that Light would had taken Near down with him.

The first season of Code Geass is one of the best mecha anime ever. The second one is one of the worst bar 1st and last episodes (srsly, if anyone wants to know how to finish a series, look up at that last episode, it's that amazing). Death Note is, IMO, the most overrated piece of media since FF7. So Lelouch Di Brittania commands me to vote for Geass. Yes, Your Highness!

F*** Near and Matsuda. I hated what they did with him in the ending. I understand the motivation of why he did what he did but Matsuda tho.

I might be the only one on this, but I hated Light Yagami with a passion. So I was glad that got what was coming to him in the end.

Yeah, he was one of those where I'm honeslty confused why people think he's the good guy. If he tried to keep back in the shadows, stick to the worst and actually have a moral dilemma over the Death Note, it would have been one thing. But he basically sucumbs to ego and a God delusion almost right away. So why should I sympathise with him?

Hell, he did not even care when his own father died. I really did not see anything to like about him. I don't understand why people hated near though. Granted he was nowhere as good as L, but he did prove that he should not be underestimated, which is what Light exactly did. Though Mello did help him but he did develop very well to become L's successor.

I found Death Note much better paced {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}even if Mello and Near weren't as intriguing as "antagonists" for Light as L was. The first season of Code Geass is one of the best mecha anime ever. The second one is one of the worst bar 1st and last episodes (srsly, if anyone wants to know how to finish a series, look up at that last episode, it's that amazing). I agree for the most, though I thought the last stretch of episodes of R2 was pretty strong. R2 took a massive dip in quality though, capped off with some characters making some incredibly stupid and amoral decisions that never got called out on.

Yea the way R1 ended it left me a little deflated when R2 didn't hit that same pace R1 had. Add into the fact you had more factions it sort of stumbled. That ending arc tho is fantastic capped off with from a brilliant plan by Lelouch which the world will(his world) will never recognize.

I would normally say Code Geass, but f*** the second half of season 2.
At least Death Note stayed decent from beginning to end.
