Man, I'm not sure if they'd have the guts to try this - but it'd be amazing if the whole gimmick was that you could play through 20 matches - one from each original game - using the engines/graphics from the time. That might get a little repetitive towards the middle of the 2000s, but like...Rock vs. Austin in Smackdown 1, Jericho vs. HHH in Smackdown 2, Kurt Angle vs. The Rock in SD 3, etc. would be a fun twist. I don't think that's such a good idea. Playing them so close together would make it really obvious how many of them were huge pieces of crap. Hear what you're saying - maybe they select some greatest hits for it, but think that if they picked the best ones, that'd work.

Yeah, they could do like 1, 2, SYM, HCTP, SvR 2006, SvR 2007, SvR 2009, and then you hit a huge streak of bad until 2K14.

Kenny Omega said he'd want the AKI/Syn Sophia team o develop an AEW game. He's even friends with or at least knows some of the team members personally, iirc (don't quote me on that).
How much of the old AKI team is still there? I'd suspect that after 2 decades, a change of name, & a major shift in company direction that Syn-Sofia isn't what it used to be. While a NM sucessor would be the more preferable game for me (never actually played HCTP personally), it may not be viable today. AEW would have to take what they can get.
I simply don't think that a completely new IP would be sucessful for Yukes. There's a reason why there isn't much competition to WWE games to begin with, WWE is wrestling to the mainstream & most gamers won't have an interest in a wrestling game with a generic made-up roster. It needs some sort of significant brand appeal to get an audience & AEW is practically the only promotion that even has the potential to get big enough.
& then there's the timing of it. Yukes chooses now to make a non-wwegame, did they only recently came to this realization or could they have done this sooner? It's something they announced so shortly after the birth of a promotion with enough hype & momentum behind it to quickly become the new #2.

At this rate, I wonder if the big 2k20 reveal will be at SummerSlam or something.

I'm almost definitely waiting until 2K20 is discounted. It always happens within a month or two anyway and the game's probably going to play the exact same with a few new bells and whistles but with Universe as busted as ever.

If previous years are any indication, it'll probably be on sale immediately for Black Friday. I'm not even going to say I'm going to sit this year's game out at all, because every year I do, I somehow get suckered into getting a good deal on it, and justify buying the DLC for one reason or another. But last year's convinced me I really don't need to give them the money every year. The only good part was MyCareer's storyline, and after I hit the wall with one match I couldn't win and couldn't just skip, I flat out stopped playing it.

I think the only mild interest I have is seeing if there's a Switch version and if so, how bad it is. Seems like they don't even care anymore to explain why we should pay $60 every year for one or two new wrestlers you can find on CC.

That was the year they dropped PS3/360 so I had figured that the last gen team would become the Switch team. And thus the Switch version would basically be a glorified 360 port: runs ok but hardly comparable to XB1/PS4. Instead an outsourced company attempted downscaling the current gen build which the Switch was in no shape for.

Figured I'd post an update to the Universe Mode that I'm having a lot of fun with now.

Exact same thing that happened to me, I was loving MyCareer then it just got WAY too hard and I stopped playing. The eye melting white menus weren't helping either. I feel like the games used to be so much less of a time sink making CAWs and stuff it feels like by the time I'd have my roster of CAWs and arenas and shows and stuff ready the new game would be out.

My hunch is that it’s probably going to be Lynch on the cover. Barring that, the safe guess is always Reigns, since this is one of the few things they haven’t done with him yet.
