They did the first positive step, but have to go all the way with it: emphasize the Cleveland "block C" logo, but now take the added step of just getting rid of Chief Wahoo. Seriously, he's a Sambo face, just painted red instead of black. The Braves took awhile but finally ditched Chief Knockahoma, Cleveland needs to follow that lead.
Naming a team after Native Americans doesn't have to be a bad thing, but it's pretty much the right thing to do to ask local tribes for input. FSU, despite the "throw the spear into the 50 yard line" silliness, actually does an admirable job of working with local Seminoles, including having them make authentic costumes and what have you for festivals and even for game days. On the pro level, the Chicago Blackhawks manage to not make a ridiculous racial stereotype out of their logo, nor do they fall back on insanely insulting things like the tomahawk chop chant.

Even then, there's still a weakness and there also has to be a case where in some cases, money matters for whether even "ask the local tribes for input" comes into play. The NCAA has already been willing to do a lot to say "if you had a Native American image, and you didn't get local tribes' input and approval, then you don't get to play in postseason games until you change the name"- but at the same time, Florida State will get to do that for the Seminoles, but North Dakota won't get to despite many of the same arguments for their Fighting Sioux nickname...and it obviously boils down to "Florida State football is more profitable for the NCAA than even North Dakota being a college hockey powerhouse is."

If they really want to abolish all Native American imagery, why not change the Redskins name to the Washington Voldemorts or (more likely), the Washington Macbeths?
