Given the market size and the location of being literally a desert this seems like one of the worst places to put an NHL Team.

Given the market size and the location of being literally a desert this seems like one of the worst places to put an NHL Team. The NHL learned nothing from this did they. There's no way that market can support that many teams. I think it'll still take a while for the NBA or MLB to warm up to them. The Raiders seem dead set on going there though, and that would be a great match really. How do we not have the market size to support these teams? Vegas is bigger then Buffalo(2 teams), Oakland(3 teams) Green bay, Salt Lake, Cincinnati(2 teams) and a load of other places that have teams. Vegas will also get fans to fill the stadiums because what fan wouldn't want to come to Vegas watch their team take in the sites and gamble on their own teams success. Do we need all 4 major sports? No, but we definitely want more then just NHL. (Preferably NFL and NBA)

Given the market size and the location of being literally a desert this seems like one of the worst places to put an NHL Team. Like all sunbelt teams there's a degree of risk to them. But this is actually one of the safer bets to have because the arena is actually in The Strip and not in a far off suburb. Like how The Coyotes are in Glendale or The Panthers are in Sunrise. It's going to be a bit embarrassing at first that many of the fans are going to be Canadian tourists where a trip to Vegas and tickets is somehow cheaper than attending their actual home game and many skyboxes/seats completely empty or occupied by non hockey fans because they were bought by casinos or travel companies. But there's a brand new arena in the strip with plenty of corporate casino backers that'll keep the franchise safe financially. Plus they actually have a competent GM and with all the parity in the league and good players on bad contracts, the expansion draft will actually be one of the strongest ever.

(Preferably NFL and NBA) Oakland's a bit of an odd case because their strength is in the entire Bay Area and a natural "cross-town" rivalry with San Francisco. Green Bay is also very much the exception to the rule in a lot of ways. Like having public ownership by the City of Green Bay. The Packers only exist as they are because they're one of the oldest teams in the NFL and never moved or got bought by new owners to move them to Milwaukee or some other bigger city.

The NFL is popular enough you could literally put a team anywhere in the country and they could fill out an arena or close to capacity 8 home games a year as long as they were not Jags/Browns type bad

My market (St. Louis) is a great hockey and baseball market, but a failed football market. Vancouver lost it's NBA team and it's very comparable to Vegas. Oakland is losing teams. The problem is you have the NFL dead set on going there. So that's 2 teams. If either the NBA or MLB goes there, that's 3 teams in a pretty short time (around 8-10 years, hypothetically speaking). And you need them all to catch on. And you run into the same problem that Miami has for both locals and ESPECIALLY tourists, which is there's SO much shit to do or see in Vegas. Like, I'm a huge hockey fan. But if I go to Vegas, the last thing I'm gonna do is go to a f***in hockey game. Maybe if they're playing my local team, but even then it seems like kind of a waste of time. I'm gonna go gamble or see stand-up or something. Same if I go to Miami, which is also a tourist destination. Am I gonna go down there and take in a Dolphins or Marlins game? Of course not.

The whole world travels to Las Vegas to party, and you expect them to sit in a stadium watching a football game and eating nachos?

When the cheapest good oiler tickets on stubhub is 300 bucks American and I can book myself a Vegas trip for six days flight and hotel for like 350-500 canadian and a game day ticket for 40-60 bucks in a better seat than yeah.

Tourists will still have the entire night for the other vices Vegas has to offer. Let me give an example, if the Raiders did move to Vegas a MNF starts at 5:30 and ends around 8:30-9 o'clock. They'd literally have all day then all night to party.

Indeed I do, I figured out time zones some time ago. I've also been to Vegas a few times, and you can spend a whole day exploring one casino on the strip. There's just too much to do in Vegas, the NFL cannot compete.

They might have to change the name & logo really soon.
The U.S. Patent office denied the trademark of the name (a college is using the name, Vegas is not an official location name, etc.), plus the Army is having an issue with the nickname since its a reference to them.

Let me give an example, if the Raiders did move to Vegas a MNF starts at 5:30 and ends around 8:30-9 o'clock. They'd literally have all day then all night to party. The NFL will always sell tickets. My problem has been the MLB and NBA moves. Which also start at local times. The NHL gets the advantage of being first to market, otherwise they would be on the short end also. If I'm going to Vegas on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (which is when the vast majority of people are), there's a 0.0% chance of me going to a baseball game. Like, most of these people are coming from a place where they have a local team and they go there with some regularity. I go to Cards games and Blues games all the time. So I can either go to Vegas and see other teams, and have no real rooting interest (lame) or I can go see my team and experience something I do when I'm at home. Or I can see an act that only plays in Vegas or sights I can only see in Vegas or gamble like I can't at home. To me, it's a total waste to go out to Vegas to do something I do at home. Not to mention, the MLB season is an unbelievably long grind, and their games do tend to wear out even fans of the game (myself included). To me, baseball in Vegas is such a contrast to the fast pace and bright lights, that it would be best used as a come-down to people who have had sensory overload.

If they had just gone with the Silver Knights, this whole problem would have been so much easier to deal with.
