Seriously, though.
We're looking at (likely) #5 Wisconsin vs. (likely) #6 Pedophile State, and regardless, the winner gets left out when two other teams in their conference might get in.
Something might need to be done about that.

Something might need to be done about that. Michigan's not getting in. Bama's a lock even if they lose, Ohio State in all likelihood is in, and Clemson and Washington are in with victories next week. If Clemson or Washington lose, then the winner of the B1G Championship Game is in. If both Washington and Clemson lose, then we've got chaos for that final spot, it will come down to Colorado and the Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State winner.

If Ohio State gets it it be a crying shame. Do we forget TCU two years ago What helps Ohio State to get that spot without a conference championship is their quality wins, they've beat Oklahoma in Norman, Wisconsin in Madison, and Michigan. That's 3 teams right there that will be in the top 10 when the rankings are released on Tuesday. They've also got 1 loss to Penn State or Wisconsin's 2 losses. And this year Louisville fell apart when they had a shot at getting into the playoff, the Big 12 champion will have 2 losses, and everyone in the SEC outside of Bama pissing it away.

The ridiculous state of this game can be summed up with the rankings fluctuations this year (and pretty much any year as of late). These people who get paid to be experts and decide the fate of teams are salesmen only. That's why I can't even watch. It's not about merit; it's not about actually scouting teams out and watching them; it's about padding ratings and getting a few names in there that people will watch.
Michigan St and Notre Dame were leaping into top 15 and Top 10 early on because of what writers and such WANTED them to be, 'not what they were. They would lose, then beat someone and jump 10-15 spots in the polls. Just track how deplorable their rankings were week to week and how even with 3 wins, you hear how they're so good on the broadcast. Washington BEGAN the year ranked 14. And we're talking about what a not-good team they are and trying to keep them out of the playoffs. Why can they not get the benefit of the doubt that the same hacks gave to horrible teams these same hacks were praying to the football gods would get in. I mean, you've got teams with 3 wins who were given way more benefit of the doubt and discussed as national title in-the-hunt teams even five or six games into the season.
I mean, Texas won one game and went from unranked to somewhere around 13 or 14. Who did they beat to earn that? Notre Dame. Haha! It's ridiculous. Washington started at 14 and lost one game all year and they SURGE ALL THE WAY ... to 5th. Maybe they need to relocate to South Bend or some such place. They'd be awarded the trophy and the entire team at the White House on New Years Day instead of even having to play the championship games if they were old money cronies.
[/annoyed hyperbole]
Sorry, everyone. Ranting annoyed guy is annoyed. True though the rankings system's brokenness is.

Notre Dame and Texas were both out of the rankings by Week 6 and I haven't heard a lot of talk about how either team was good. And Notre Dame was definitely not being talked about as a possible playoff team after losing 3 of their first 4 games.
Preseason rankings are kind of stupid because a lot is based off of speculation, but things get sorted out pretty quickly. Plus with the CFP the AP and Coaches polls don't matter at all, basically. Notre Dame and Texas weren't ranked in any of the CFP rankings. Washington has been around 5th in every week of that, aside from when they went to #4 and lost and fell all the way to #6 after getting doubled up by USC in Washington. If they take care of business against Colorado they should make it in.
Also Notre Dame hasn't won shit since the 1980s.

Yeah, I don't like USC, but this is a completely different USC team. Hell, I'd say USC and Ohio State (because of Urban Meyer) would be the only teams could beat Bama.

One of the criteria of the committee is championships won. Ohio State isn't even in their conference title game. Are they one of the top 4 teams? Yes. Should they be in the CFP picture as of this moment? No. Why reward a team who didn't win their own conference championship? How does that make sense? It's setting a dangerous precedent.

The committee friendly media guys have spent the last several weeks explaining that the committee's mandate is to pick "the best four teams". Thus planting the seed for such hilarity as a Big Ten Champion Wisconsin or Penn state going to the Rose Bowl while a brand name goes to the playoff. Not saying I agree one way or the other but there is No automatic qualifying in the CFP. So theoretically one loss OSU could get in and the conference champ left out. Tell me whose wins are more impressive? Ohio state or Penn State? Head to head is a fine tie breaker except Penn state is 10-2 (11-2 could move them over the line).
