Jim Bowden is reporting the potential deal between the Nats and White Sox for Sale would see Washington's top pitching prospect, Lucas Giolito, and positional prospect, CF Victor Robles, head to Chicago.

Honestly, do it. Sale is signed through 2019 at a bargain. I wasn't that impressed with Lucas but he only pitched like 21 innings in the big leagues. Robles I have no clue about. If the Nats win a championship within the next 3 years, it would be worth it.

Can the Nationals sign anyone of significance? They need another bullpen arm, a closer, and I guess they're OK with Norris as catcher. When you think about it, the team doesn't have a lot of holes. They need a big right handed bat. Werth gets hurt too often, Zimmerman's best days are behind him and with no Wilson Ramos, it's even worse. Chris Sale is a big get if they can land him, but the starting pitching hasn't really been an issue in their playoff woes. Hitting and bullpen have.

Can't get the tweet to embed, but the Red Sox traded for Sale. Moncada and Kopech involved.

Damn. I was holding out hope that the Braves would somehow land Chris Sale. I think they absolutely should've given up Dansby Swanson for him, but most Braves fans would tar and feather me for suggesting that.

Sweet. Trade a guy you really didn't need to deal and not even get Benintendi in the deal. The Red Sox have been pulling off trade heists for over a decade. It's nauseating. Hahn and Williams should hang their heads in shame.
Some bullpen improvements and we might be looking at a Cubs-Sox World Series. Even more nauseating.

The Toronto Star's Richard Griffin reports that Jose Bautista is in contact with the Dodgers.
As a Jays fan, I can say unequivocally that Joey Bats is a terrible fit for the NL. His arm is shot and he has trouble tracking flies at this point. Unless he's gonna play a ton of 1B, not having the DH as an option seems like a terrible idea for all parties.

This is the advantage of big-market clubs.
The Red Sox outbid everybody for Yoan Moncada and all they ended using him for was facilitating a trade for Chris Sale.

The Yankees will be retiring Derek Jeters number on May 14th. Is 13 now the smallest # in circulation? Or is it #12?

I feel relief that the Nats didn't get Sale, but on the other hand it might've been nice to see them give up their best young players to get him. Still, probably for the best from a Mets fan perspective, at least for now.

But if Quintana goes also, they're in deep doo-doo. Best of luck, Chris. Still a fan.

I have an idea of what Boston could use as confetti for the "Welcome, Sale" parade ...

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, offers for free agent closer Aroldis Chapman are past $80 million.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals are now going for Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen after missing out on Chris Sale.

Jesus. I mean, the Sox aren't gonna have a farm system left....but that rotation is gonna be nasty Assuming Porcello doesn't regress to the mean. The dude was 9-15 with a 4.92 ERA in 2015. He had been the definition of a 50-50 pitcher.

Moncada going into last year was thought to be the better prospect almost to a consensus. I don't think they're far off, really. It's not like Moncada is a clearly inferior prospect, if that's what you're saying.

LOL @ the Melancon contract. Not saying he's bad, but you know it had to be the easiest negotiation in a long time. Melancon's agent: *walks in and puts his feet up on the desk* Giants: We're willing to give him 4 years, 36 million. Melancon's agent: *plays YouTube video of BS'es of the last 2 months* Giants: Fine, just fill out this check yourself. In the end, What's the worse contract? (Obviously the last two are just "educated" guesses) Melancon for 62 Jansen for ~80-85+ Chapman for ~90-100 ? Chapman has been consistently near-dominant, so from a risk standpoint he's pretty solid. But you don't pay a closer 100 mil. Jansen has been almost as good, but he strikes me as a type who will drop off out of nowhere. And Melancon could easily just fall through the cracks without the tutelage of arguably the best pitching coach in baseball. So to answer your question, I have no f***ing clue.
