The Nationals got completely dicked I'm not really sure about this either. Apparently they offered all three guys plus Robles for Sale and the White Sox balked. But they got 3/4 of them for Eaton. It doesn't make sense to me. Eaton is under team control for 5 seasons, so maybe that's why the price would have been higher on him that McCutchen

Much better of a performance by the ChiSox front office.
With Quintana, Frazier, Robertson and perhaps Jose Abreu on the block, they'll definitely be able to secure themselves some top-tier future talent and contend with the burgeoning Cubs dynasty.

I'm glad to see we're all on the same page about the Nationals getting absolutely hosed in the Adam Eaton trade.
Washington shipped away the top pitching prospect in the entire game (Lucas Giolito), a top-40 overall prospect (Reynaldo Lopez), and a 21-year-old first-round pick with a plus fastball and changeup (Dane Dunning) in exchange for a good-but-not-great 28-year-old outfielder who is on his third team in five years.
If that's the asking price for Adam Eaton, I shudder to think what the Pirates have been seeking in return for Andrew McCutchen.

THE ONE ADAM THE WHITE SOX HAD THAT WAS WORTH A SHIT!
I like Adam Eaton. Fun clubhouse leader, he stepped up his game this year.
But come on. Washington just f***** themselves with this deal.
Heard this morning the Sox might just hang on to Quintana until next year.

Still, this is a helluva haul for the ChiSox with presumably more to come. This is how you do a rebuild. You blow it all up. Don't do it half-measure.

We're in the new post steroid era of baseball. The players hitting the age of late 20's into 30 seem to be taking a massive drop off, moreso now than ever. There are certainly exceptions to the rule but hitters seem to be suffering similar fates as pitchers

Chapman to the Yanks --- 5/86 Didn't quite get what I expected him to. Almost wish the Giants went all in and spent the extra $$$$ for him. I think Melancon is fine, but I'm not sure he warranted a full NTC and an opt-out after 2018.

WOOOOOOOWWWWW! Just when you think no one can out-Diamondback the Diamondbacks, the Nationals throw their hat in the ring. They pretty much threw all their good prospects at the Sox for Sale, and they said no, and the Nats are like "Ok, what else will this buy me?" Giolito didn't have a great year last year. He WAS the top pitching prospect, and now Urias has kinda caught up and a couple others aren't far behind. The gap has closed, but the top-end upside on him is still above everybody else. Him alone for Eaton is a bad deal for the Nats. But to throw their 2nd best prospect on top of that and another solid prospect is insanity. Worse than the Shelby Miller deal.

I believe it's a combination of pitchers getting squeezed and parks moving their fences in. Petco, Citi, Safeco and the Marlins park have all moved in the fences recently, and those are the favorable pitchers parks. I saw more highlights of HRs in Petco this year than I've ever seen combined. Even Bartolo hit one there.

Also, I'd imagine they had talks for Eaton during or before the Sale deal, because they got a deal done so quickly afterwards. If the Sox knew they could still get Giolito, they'd be crazy to not trade for Moncada.

The price of renting Chapman to get us that World Series ring - we traded a good chunk of our prospects to the Yankees... and now the Yankees have Chapman back too. Hopefully Epstein and co don't lose sight of building up a good prospect portfolio now we're champs.

Wade Davis ain't no scrub, though. He isn't as electric as Chapman but he's still a damn fine relief pitcher with solid postseason experience.
Though I still think the Cubs should trade Schwarber to an American League team. The guy is an amazing hitter but can't field worth a damn. He's a prototypical designated hitter and I can see a number of AL teams willing to trade some great prospects for him.
Also lol nats. What an awful trade.

I have zero problem with what the Cubs gave up for a rental of Chapman. Torres is really the only one with true star potential. And the if he does become a star, I'll just remember game 5 of the World Series and I'll feel all better.
And the Cubs aren't trading Schwarber. At least not for a couple of years. They'll deal with subpar defense to keep his bat in the lineup.

"Aroldis Chapman decided not to resign with the World Champion Chicago Cubs and instead took a long term deal with the New York Yankees. A team who failed to make the playoffs last year"
What is a sentence I couldn't imagine typing three years ago.

The Cubs won a World Series and after 108 years, the idea of finally not having to wait till next year to see it was the only endgame so whatever it took to get there should not be regretted.

Interestingly, it was a season with no 50 HR hitters and a ton of solo HR's. Also kind of fitting that the WS Game 7 saw a glut of HR's (4)

Three of the last four pitchers to throw the final out of the World Series are now on the Cubs (Uehara in 2013, Davis in 2015 and Montgomery in 2016).
