Phillies acquired RHP Clay Buchholz from the Red Sox for INF Josh Tobias. This is how Clay Buchholz's tenure with the Boston Red Sox had to end. Not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with the "shrug emoji" in trade form. So ends a 10-season run for a pitcher who was among the most maddening, frustrating, inconsistent pitchers to ever don a Red Sox uniform. He broke onto the scene in late-2007, throwing a no-hitter at the age of 22 in only his second career start. After an off-season filled with hype and debates on whether Buchholz should be part of a package to acquire Johan Santana from the Twins, Buchholz sputtered in 2008 with a 2-9 record and 6.75 ERA in 15 starts and it never got better from there. Sure, there were moments of hope - his 2010 season in which he was one of the best pitchers in the American League and the first half of 2013 when he was a legitimate Cy Young Award contender - but that lingering injury was always waiting around the corner. In his nine full seasons in the big leagues, Buchholz threw more than 150 innings only three times (2010, 2012, 2014) and made 25 or more starts in only three seasons ('10, '12, '14). For someone with all the talent and promise that he had, he could never stay healthy and seemingly couldn't get out of his own head. Nothing was more frustrating than watching a Buchholz start after he'd surrendered a walk or single and he had this incessant need to throw to first to check the runner, regardless of if it was a base-stealer like Carl Crawford or some plodding slowpoke like Bengie Molina. He alone is the reason why I believe Major League Baseball needed to introduce a pitch clock because it was like watching grass grow when Buchholz was pitching with runners on base. I clocked him once, out of curiosity, and he held the ball for 30 seconds on several occasions in a single at-bat. It was infuriating. Oh well, he's Philadelphia's problem now. I'm sure he'll have his share of success, pitching in the National League, but I'm also sure that he's bound to have a nagging injury that will linger throughout the season and that pitching his home games in the bandbox in the City of Brotherly Love will have his ERA up around 5.

Edwin Encarnacion's agent says that Edwin will not be re-signing with the Blue Jays. I can't believe how much the market has dried up for both Encarnacion and Jose Bautista. It seems like there's virtually no interest for either player. Granted, Bautista just turned 36 and is coming off an injury-plagued season in which his batting average, slugging percentage, OPS, home runs, and runs batted in were the lowest they've been for him he started becoming an all-star in 2010, but he also was rumored to be seeking contracts in the area of five years, $150 million or six years and $180 million. Encarnacion, meanwhile, opened negotiations seeking five years and $125 million and it's pretty clear he won't get anything close to that. If I were his agent, I wouldn't be ruling out any teams that have interest in my client.

The Rockies should get Encarnacion. That is all.

What's funny is that EE can't even go the short deal and prove yourself route that other FAs do. He'll just get talked down even more a year or two from now. It's weird, because he has the production and I feel like he should get the money from somebody, but I really hope it's not my team. And it's been a while since the whole league thought like that on a high-end FA who passes as much of the eyeball test as he does. Maybe sign a 1-year deal with a team who has a gaping hole at 1B and try to leverage it into a bigger deal? Of all the money getting tossed around for relief pitchers, it's funny that a top producing everyday player is available and he's probably gonna get stiffed.

I think a big issue Edwin is gonna find is he is just worth being a designated hitter because I don't think he really can play defense anymore.

Edwin Encarnacion went from asking for five years and $125 million to settling on what appears to be three years and $60 million with an option that would make it four years and $80 million. So if that contract plays out in the best case scenario for Encarnacion, he still lost at least $45 million from what he was originally seeking.

So the Indians coming off a Game 7 WS heartbreaker get Carrasco back and add EE? What was that stuff earlier this off-season about the Sox being the new favorites in the AL?

Edwin Encarnacion's agent, Paul Kinzer, told MLB Network Radio on Friday that his client turned down a "(Yoenis) Cespedes-type" offer from the Athletics.

Don't forget Michael Brantley. I'm gutted to lose Edwin, but I don't begrudge him at all. The dude was a terrific soldier in Toronto and I wish him nothing but the best. The fact that he signed with Cleveland - a team that I don't dislike - cushions the blow a little bit.

The Giants brought back the shell of Micheal Morse.
I loved him in his season in SF. Hopefully there's a little gas left in the tank.

He was on a tear in the two years prior. If he comes back right, there's no reason why that team shouldn't completely run away with the Central at the bare minimum.

I'm assuming the sticking point is who loses the home games.
Somehow, I'm guessing Washington. That franchise is used to playing in neutral cities.
