In a few hours, we're gonna find out who's headed to the Hall of Fame.

Happy for Tim Raines who almost got screwed because of the 15 year to 10 change.

Those 3 definitely deserve it, so there is that. Hoffman and Vlad being so close despite being less deserving than about 7 others below them remains a mystery.

Jorge Posada reaches just 3.8% of the vote and is off the ballot.
I'm not of the opinion that he's a Hall of Famer, but I certainly figured he wouldn't be one and done.

And this is where those dumb writers' sanctimony hurts the Hall. They keep names like Bonds/Clemens on the board and the borderline candidates like Posada, McGriff, Walker, etc are stuck waiting behind them instead of having the floor to themselves. They have interesting HOF cases and I'd lobe to see rigorous discussion about it. Instead, we're stuck with this shit

Instead, we're stuck with this shit The problem was that Posada (and Jason Varitek, for that matter) were both really hurt by how strong the catchers' class on this ballot was. Considering both of them and Rodriguez all got on the ballot at the same time, it was as big a sadistic choice to a HOF voter as possible: The three best catchers in the AL of this generation all there, and you kind of had to rank out which one was best (and with how strong the ballot was with the people left, you couldn't say "well, maybe two of them deserve it/all three of them deserve it".) It's much clearer that the three of them ate each others' votes- spread them out,and Pudge probably gets in with no problem instead of by the skin of his teeth, and bare minimum Posada AT LEAST gets 5% (and Varitek may have as well instead of just two votes.)

I dont' disagree that there were a lot at the catcher position on this ballot, but if I take any of that hypothetical "Yankee mystique" and whatever the Boston equivalent is out of the picture,I don't really see a comparison. Two were "good" but offensively Rodriguez got nearly as many hits as Veritek adn Posada COMBINED. Defensively it's the same. Between Veritek and Posada, they cut down 688 runners trying to steal. Rodriguez sent 661 runners back empty handed. Might consider it cherry picking, but if I look at hits, runners caught, and power, and I see one guy who played 21 years having numbers that are equal, near equal, or better then two contemporaries that each played 15 seasons combined, I'm not going to say the three are anywhere close to the same level in terms of productivity.

I'm flabbergasted as to how they handle the pitchers. Kevin Brown, Mike Mussina and Curt Schilling were all better than Tom Glavine. Glavine gets in easily first ballot, Brown is dropped off immediately (what the hell was that?) and the other two struggle massively to get in. I can't stand Curt Schilling as a human being either but come the hell on.

I keep seeing Tim Raines back when he was in his Montreal Expos jersey and it makes me wonder about this piece of trivia: Is Vlad Guerrero the final ever Expos player to be in a Hall of Fame ballot? (unless of course the Expos somehow come back in some way)
EDIT: I guess there will be Livan Hernandez next year, so there's one.

Bartolo Colon is still active, and it's a formality he'll make the HOF ballot when he finally retires, so it'll inevitably be him.

Both of them did get suspended for steroids. I still say his numbers justify him getting n, but if he does then there's a lot of guys that better be in at the exact same time.

The BBWAA are a bunch of pretentious, hypocritical asses.
Now by no means am I trying to downplay the abilities of Raines, Pudge and Bagwell, but there's no way they should be in the HOF before guys like Bonds, Clemens and Sosa.
Let's bury our heads in the sand during the midst of the streroid era but punish the same guys from getting into the HOF now. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I hate Schilling, and I doubt politics were the reason he was kept out, but if they were that is lame.
But so is sharing memes suggesting the people who vote on this stuff should be hanged, so better luck next time.

I have no argument with the 3 chosen. Of course, I'm happy Tim Raines is finally getting his plaque.

I think lumping Sosa in with the likes of Bonds and Clemens is an insult to Bonds and Clemens. Yea they all did PEDs, but those two were more well rounded and were looking fantastic long before they shot themselves up. Sosa was middle to slightly better beofe and was pretty much a one trick pony with the PEDs. Sosa is more with Manny than he is with Bonds, Sosa, Big Mac, A-Rod.
