I'm assuming the sticking point is who loses the home games. Somehow, I'm guessing Washington. That franchise is used to playing in neutral cities. Just make it that somehow the Padres lose the home games, without Ginny Baker their fans won't notice too much.

Cubs winning the World Series was voted the Top AP Sports Story of 2016.....as if anything could match it. Nothing could, even as a Cardinals fan I know that, nothing in sports could top ending a 100+ years streak of no championships. That is a hell of a story for sports. Same thing when Boston ended theirs in 04.

Not only had they never won the championship in their 132 year history, they started the season at 5000/1 outsiders. At least the cubs did have past championships and they were favourites for most of the year.

So the Indians coming off a Game 7 WS heartbreaker get Carrasco back and add EE? What was that stuff earlier this off-season about the Sox being the new favorites in the AL? As a Red Sox fan, I have no problem conceding the pre-season pennant to the Indians. They should be the favorites in the Junior Circuit. They added Edwin Encarnacion and they have Michael Brantley returning to a lineup that last season scored 777 runs. Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar are returning to a pitching staff that carried Cleveland to game 7 of the World Series. Barring injury or some major unforeseen drop in talent, they're going to be really good in 2017. The Red Sox, meanwhile, added Chris Sale and Tyler Thornburg to their pitching staff and are expected to get Steven Wright and Carson Smith back, but they've also yet to address the loss of David Ortiz. Sure, the Red Sox scored a league-leading 878 runs in 2016, but Ortiz drove in 127 of them and scored 79 of them. It's also going to be pretty hard to replace the 38 home runs and .315 average he provided as the centerpiece of that lineup.

Why are no-good cheaters like Bonds, Clemens and Sosa on the ballot for the Hall, but Rose isn't because he bet on a few games.
For the integrity of the game, Bonds, Clemens and Sosa should not be inducted.

For the integrity of the game, Bonds, Clemens and Sosa should not be inducted. Simple answer, Rose is off and will always be off because it's a written rule on the wall of every clubhouse in the sport. The others, whether you see it as cheating or just what the game was, is a slippery slope you do NOT want to go down ever. You don't because if you do, then past decisions come to play. Orlando Cepeda got in, and he was busted smuggling drugs. Amphetimines, everyone used them, but they were still illegal then, and are still illegal now. You slap down and say "We won't even let these steroid guys on the ballot because drugs" then the question becomes "So steroids bad, but coke, weed, speed, and God knows what else are ok" and the question (one that I have indeed considered myself) becomes "why not start purging peolpe from the hall who used illegal narcotics while they played".

Problem is they already went down that hole with guys like McGwire and Palmeiro

Problem is they already went down that hole with guys like McGwire and Palmeiro Oh, I get it, but I'm talking further then just "you cheater, you can't be in our super special club house", I'm talking about guys being removed from the Hall who are already elected. Go with the same fist-shaking "Ah'm Sayin' Never" routine the writers are using with the steroids guys, that whole "doesn't matter, either he used, or we think maybe he might have, so get out and stay out". Let's see here. Booze was illegal nationwide even while you could get a doctor to prescribe heroine. Lots of guys drank, most of them were open about it. Still, illegal, and so anybody from that era who drank, or we suspected, they're gone. I've mentioend amphetimines before, it's speed, it's dangerous, it can kill you, and you can do a lot with little to no sleep, so it's definitely a PED. Anyoen that admitted to the use in baseball that's enshrined, theyr'e gone. I dont' care if it's Hank Aaron or Willie Mays, if we're going to be pius jackholes about the hall, as many of the writers seeem to be with 'roids, then we're gonna go Full Dixie here. Seventies and Eighties, there was coke use, and again it can highten your senses to some degree. So, if we know you used, or hell if we even think you might have cause somebody we know you played with was snorting more than Hunter S. Thompson on a bender, then you are also erased friom the enshrinement you've already received. Some cases are cut and dry. Babe Ruth was known to drink a ton, and since he was doing things on the field that no one else before him ever had, he's out. Gehrig and the rest of the Yankees from that era, sorry guys, but you played with him, and so we don't know what you were doing. So, see you all later. Sounds harsh, I know, but it's the same thing used against Bagwell, so it goes here. Same thing in the 70's and 80's, if one guy on the team was snorting coke in the locker room, we can't know that the big stars weren't, now can we? So, even if they've already given the speech and had the plaque hung up, they're gone too. Now, realistically, do I expect or want this? Of course not, but I'm all for if we're gonna go Full Dixie with the place, then let's just make a real run at it.

Ken Rosenthal reported 3 days ago: "The White Sox are still in daily talks about Jose Quintana, mainly with Pittsburgh & Houston. The Yankees are a long shot, they don't want to deal their prospects.
Team also considering holding on until the trade deadline."
Personally, they should keep him until the pitching staff is set. Jose is their ace by default right now.
The Sox also signed Geovany Soto to a minor-league deal.
Yes, again.
Harmless pick-up. See if there's anything left in the tank. Collins isn't ready yet. Worth kicking the tires on Geo.

The Mariners made a couple of trades, so trader Jerry at it again: Yovanni Gallardo for Seth Smith and Jarrod Dyson for Nate Karns.
I kinda like adding Gallardo and Dyson is a clear cut 4th outfielder and pinch runner, so no problems there. However, we still need another starting pitcher to eat some decent innings the way things are, so trading Karns away was kinda strange.

A bit belated, but was reading that the Cleveland uniforms are pretty much supposed to stay the same for next year. Still Chief Wahoo. That being said, I still don't get the team's continued insistence on pushing the dreadfully boring block C logo when pretty much every Tribe fan I've talked to wishes they'd do more with this:

"Trader" Jerry at it again!
Mallex Smith and Shae Simmons (from ATL) for Luiz Gohara and Thomas Burrows. And there's reports saying that Smith could be involved in another dealing soon.
A shame about losing Gohara, though, as he seems poised to be a good/serviceable pitcher in the big leagues in the future. Still, he has only cracked to Class-A and is 20 years old, so who knows.
EDIT: AAAAAND DONE! Mallex Smith, Ryan Yarbrough and Carlos Vargas go to Tampa, Seattle receives Drew Smyly. So, our rotation should be around King Felix, Kuma, J-Pax, The Smyly One and YoGa.

Smyly is a great buy-low after last year. And with Snell up, Cobb coming back, and a couple more prospects about ready the Rays didn't really need him that much. A weird collection of returns though. Smith is probably the best player in that group going forward, but could end up as a 4th outfielder type. Though not as likely on a team as underwhelming on offense as Tampa.

Jose Bautista's new deal is for one year and $18M, but has two options that could take it to three years and $60M.
