Michael Floyd will not be active today That's entirely unsurprising. The Patriots claimed Michael Floyd on Thursday and unless he absolutely wowed the team and instantly integrated himself into the offense in his one day of practice in Foxboro, there was virtually no way he'd be activated in time for this afternoon's game in Denver. I would expect that he'll get another week of practice under his belt and that he should be active for Saturday's game against the Jets.

With the Patriots win today, it's time to update what is becoming a rite of December.
AFC EAST DIVISION CHAMPIONS SINCE TOM BRADY TOOK OVER AS THE PATRIOTS STARTING QUARTERBACK IN 2001: Patriots, Jets, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Dolphins, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots, Patriots
As I've said in the past, division championships are by no means indicative of playoff success, but it's a ticket punched to January football and a chance to be among the contenders to be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February. And the run the Patriots have been on - 14 division championships in 16 seasons, eight consecutive division championships - is an unprecedented level of consistent success. There has been turnover at every position on the roster and staff except for quarterback and head coach, yet here the Patriots are, continuing to dominate.

On a side note, Chad Pennington was the starting QB for the "HELLO? You play... to win... the game!" Jets in 2002 and the Wildcat Fins in 2008. The Pats were also tied for first, but missed the playoffs after losing tiebreakers. I'd say that the 2002 Jets were more successful due to them shutting out Peyton's Colts 41-0 in the Wild Card, but lost in the Divisional.

[Skip Bayless brainless rant] But did that simulation take into account the fact that the Cleveland Browns will have the greatest QB since Tony Romo, RG3, back under center this week? No, it did not! How disrespectful is that towards RG3?! He was rookie of the year, even over the media darling, that turnover machine flop of a franchise quarterback, Andrew Luck! By the way, I still maintain that while it was a mistake for the Colts to move on from Peyton Manning, they still would have won at least a couple of Super Bowls by this point had they drafted RG3 instead of that turnover machine, Andrew Luck! [/Skip Bayless brainless rant] WHY DON'T YA EAT SOME OBERTO BEEF JERKY? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! </Screamin' A. Smith>

Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson reports ESPN analyst Jon Gruden "has become a focal point" on the Rams' list of head-coaching candidates. This is all part of the continued branding and selling of the Los Angeles Rams product. It's more important to get a sexy name that you can splash on billboards along the 405 and I-5 than it is to sign a coach that will work to rebuild the team because frankly, there's no time to rebuild. The Rams have been more about drawing eyes and ears than winning games since the ink dried on the paperwork to move them to Los Angeles, which is how you end up with Jared Goff as the first overall pick and Jon Gruden - who hasn't coached in the NFL since 2008 - as a prospective head coach. Whoever inherits the Rams in 2017 is left with picking up the pieces of a franchise that's in tatters. The team is no good, the no. 1 pick quarterback might be a bust, the star running back has fallen off a cliff in what was supposed to be his breakout year, the defense that was being touted as one of the best in the league is a sieve, the team has no first-round pick in 2017 and has one pick in the first three rounds, and they're stuck with some bad contracts that will prohibit them from making a splash in free agency. Outside of the now-vacant Jaguars head coaching job, there may be no less attractive gig in the NFL than coaching the Rams.

Rankings after Week 15
* Dallas and New England are now tied in strength of wins, but Dallas wins in strength of losses so they reclaim #1 * We had a tie-up in head to head between Tennessee, Denver, and Houston in that they have beaten each other, so I went with strength of wins and Tennessee barely had the better wins so they got to the top, then Green Bay (who had lost to Tennessee) had the better strength of wins over Denver, then Denver, then Tampa Bay (who lost to Denver) had the better strength of wins over Houston, then Houston, and finally Baltimore (who has the worst strength of wins of them all)
1. Dallas Cowboys (12 – 2) 2. New England Patriots (12 – 2) 3. Oakland Raiders (11 – 3) 4. Kansas City Chiefs (10 – 4) 5. New York Giants (10 – 4) 6. Seattle Seahawks (9 – 4 – 1) 7. Atlanta Falcons (9 – 5) 8. Detroit Lions (9 – 5) 9. Miami Dolphins (9 – 5) 10. Pittsburgh Steelers (9 – 5) 11. Tennessee Titans (8 – 6) 12. Green Bay Packers (8 – 6) 13. Denver Broncos (8 – 6) 14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8 – 6) 15. Houston Texans (8 – 6) 16. Baltimore Ravens (8 – 6) 17. Washington Redskins (7 – 6 – 1) 18. Indianapolis Colts (7 – 7) 19. Minnesota Vikings (7 – 7) 20. Buffalo Bills (7 – 7) 21. Carolina Panthers (6 – 8) 22. New Orleans Saints (6 – 8) 23. Arizona Cardinals (5 – 8 – 1) 24. Cincinnati Bengals (5 – 8 – 1) 25. San Diego Chargers (5 – 9) 26.
