Oh, Sorry, er, I mean Sony....learned nothing from nearly ripping the Internet apart with SJW-busters, did we?
Yeah it's like why every non-Rayburn version of Match Game never quite clicked. It was a different time and more taboos to dance around. The toothpaste is out of the tube now.
I can see AITF being more blatant about Archie being a buffoon to appeal to certain "movements" like most of Hollywood does now...

That's what is almost so baffling - it says they are going to recreate the script, apparently word for word, so no Archie lamenting about "Black Lives Matter" or whatever.

No Sanford and Son remake? At least that one, for the most part, was apolitical, so they wouldnt have to worry about the scripts being "dated" (aside from some technological advances).

That or since we also forgot what subtlety was too, like I said they'd go out of the way to make Archie more "villainous" and wrong. So it's basically a TV stage show version of the shows. Hey anyone remember the NBC show where they did parodical recreations of sitcom scenes?

Ok I just read the headline and thought this was stupid. But the premise of doing some "plays" basically doesn't sound that bad.

Hey anyone remember the NBC show where they did parodical recreations of sitcom scenes? That's actually what I thought of when I first read this idea. Thinking about this, even though he's not that old, I could see JK Simmons pulling off the Archie Bunker role for these remakes (if they're going to hire well-known professional actors that is).

This time around, Meathead will be the one to rant on the Russians. At least, for the 4 weeks it will air before being yanked off the air by people with a clue.

I see no real benefit in making All in the Family, given Cartman essentially took Archie Bunker's spot in "bigot the audience roots for and misses the point entirely".

At what point in all this reboot madness is some executive going to point out that the only reason a lot of these shows worked is because of the cast, not the characters? Archie Bunker worked BECAUSE of Carol O'Connor. George Jefferson worked BECAUSE of Sherman Hemsley. You can't just recast it and expect it to fly again. Has anyone watched the new Lethal Weapon series? Yeah, it's okay, but Damon Wayons has none of what made Murtaugh work, because what made Murtaugh work was Danny Glover.
