speaking of superstars, why aren't their early episodes on the Network? It was the flagship show for a while. Imo it's even debatable that it was still the flagship show even when RAW came along until about 96 I would say this is debatable, but Superstars and Raw were probably equals until early 1996. I remember in late 1995, you would still get Bret Hart and Undertaker on Superstars. Raw still had better matches for most of that time, but Superstars might have had more angles shot and, most importantly, that's where all the upcoming PPV matches were first announced. Few things in wrestling get me more excited than coming back from a commercial break and the PPV music hits, the graphics appear and Mean Gene or Todd Pettengil is ready to drop some new PPV matches on us.

So they've been pushing the word "Superstar" for decades, but didn't think it was important enough to trademark a name they used as the title of one of their shows?

WWE are really cheap when it comes to these. They will let classic titles like this, and oh the name of their company go if lose the rights to it. Didn't WWE, WCW or Hulk Hogan himself temporary lose the rights from Marvel to use the name Hulk? So it was just Hogan, or Hollywood Hogan until they got it back? Here's how I understand it: When WWE put Hogan under a mask as Mr. America, Marvel felt the character was too similar to Captain America and basically told WWE, "we're not gonna let you use the 'Hulk Hogan' name anymore." So WWE referred to him as Hollywood Hogan in its magazine and on its website while they and Marvel tried to work something out. Enter Terry Bollea. He purchased the name from Marvel and, from what I heard, signed a long-term deal with WWE that lets the company use the name. According to the USPTO website, "Hulk Hogan" is a registered trademark of Hogan Holdings LLC.

I believe WCW started calling him Hollywood Hogan to get out of paying Marvel.

Trademark, not copyright, but yeah, that's right. They let it lapse and someone else snagged it. That is fascinating. It'd be like if RAW or Smackdown's trademark lapsed without their knowledge and some midwest indie snagged it on a whim. Not something you'd see in today's WWE. Watch them drop the "Live" from "Smackdown Live" and someone snags the trademark for it so they have to blur/bleep every mention of it in the future.

Amusingly, Hogan also registered Hulkapedia.com in the late 2000s but let it lapse, which is a shame, an encyclopedia based on his version of reality would have been a fantastic read.
