So Christmas is coming up and I've been looking for a gift for my sister and brother-in-law. Since all they seem to do anymore is drink I figured I'd get them a bottle or two of wine. The problem is I don't know anything about wine. I was gonna try to get them some bottles of the wine I keep hearing advertised on the radio, but I can't seem to find it in any liquor store I go to. So anybody out there know anything about wine and can recommend me a good brand or type or flavor orv whatever I can get them a couple of bottles of by Saturday?

How much do you want to spend per bottle, and is there a preference between red, white, or rosΓ©?

What state are you in?
And $20 a bottle is perfectly acceptable. Expensive domestic bottles of wine rarely taste any better than the inexpensive

Around 18.00 a bottle....one of my absolute favorite wines and always delivers for the price. Around 16.00 a bottle....very bold, yet easy drinking and pairs well with steaks and burgers. Around 14.00 a bottle....mostly (if not 100%) Sangiovese. It's a very easy-drinking wine that is not as "heavy" as the previous two...I enjoy this with pasta, pizza, and some steak entrees.

Get a bottle of white, a bottle of red, perhaps a bottle of rosea instead.

Real Answer: Find out what they like and then got a wine store or a grocery store with a large wine selection and a sale person who knows wine and talk to them. Then buy what is suggested.

I picked up a couple of bottles of these (or the closest I could find to these) and my sister and brother-in-law seemed to really like them.

Are they Wine connoisseurs or do they just like to drink it? Just get couple of bottles $5 merlot. They'll be happy enough to get drunk on that.

The typo in the title makes it sound a bit like a personal ad. "Need held with wine, likes long walks on beach".
That aside, fortunately, wine prices are a lot more competitive nowadays than they used to be, so good stuff isn't always terribly pricey. There are a lot of people in the wine game now, so they can't afford to price-gouge as much.

I have beverages. A wee bit jealous and clingy though. "WHERE ARE YOU GOING!?" "Uh.._.The bathroom." "Uh-huh... Who is he?"

You made three excellent choices. Might I suggest if you want to treat them next Christmas, that you throw in a California Zinfandel. Zinfandel from Michael David (Lodi) are excellent. There are two that are widely distributed: 7 Deadly Zins and Freakshow. Most California Zins are going to be "fruit forward" and "jammy" which would equate to slightly sweet and rich, tasting more fruit than alcohol.

I can't possibly be the only one who thinks a thread about alcohol with a typo in the title is hilarious.

Can I get wine choosing help too? Sure. If it's clear and yella', you've got juice there, fella. If it's tangy and brown, you're in cider town.
