The other thread made me want to create this thread. But what are your favourite announce teams? Mine:
1) JR & Paul Heyman Heyman was such a natural doing... well anything really, but he was exceptional commentating and brought JR to a level he hadn't been for years.
2) Mike Tenay & Don West Mike Tenay is an incredible talent. Every time WCW brought him in to talk about the Mexican or Japanese wrestlers Tenay would do an incredible job putting over the wrestlers and history of lucha. It was always a shame when they went back to proto-Booker Dusty Rhodes spouting nonsense. Don West just had such a passion for wrestling and was an unabashed mark for everything he saw and it was a joy to hear him. West got even better when he turned heel and it angered me so much when they replaced him for tazz.
3) Gorilla Monsoon & Booby Heenan 4) Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse Ventura Gorilla Monsoon objectively might not have been the best commentator ever, but he had a warmth to him that just made it easy to listen to anfd I have never had any issues against him at all. Ventura and Heenan are the greatest heel colour analysts ever but I gave Heenan the edge for just being a little bit funnier.
5) Dave Prazak & Portia Perez Dave Prazak is a good commentator. As the owner and promoter of Shimmer he is obviously invested at what he does. As the guy who signs the talent and is sent all the application videos from them he is able to let you know of their history and can put them over and as the booker he is able to tell the stories of what is going on, but he's just good. Portia Perez however excels in the role. Hilarious, witty, never breaks character and always has an explanation for the heels actions. They tried the same formula with Veda Scott and while she is good, she's not in Portia's league.
6) Matt Striker & Vampiro Vampiro is amazing. Does any Lucha Underground fan not love Vampiro? He is a good storyteller, puts over the talents well and "marks out bro" in the best possible way like when he threw the headset down and ran from his desk in disbelief after Angelico's dive. Striker can be excellent like his call after the first trios champions which is one of the best calls ever as far as I'm concerned but he has to shoe in bloody bible references all the damn time and still even now he doesn't quite get the equality thing, feeling the need to boast about how there is gender equality in LU rather than just not mentioning it at all.
7) Joey Styles "CATFIGHT CATFIGHT!" Aside I have always liked Joey and it takes talent to commentate by yourself.
8) Michael Cole & Tazz This was my commentary team growing up as I was a Smackdown fan rather than a Raw fan like most UK WWE fans in the early 00's I'm sure on account of SD being on the free channel. It seems hard to believe now but Cole & Tazz were genuinely good at one point and actually better than Lawler and JR at the time. JR was half-arsing everything on Raw, not bothering anymore to learn anybody's finisher, but Cole still seen as the #2 play-by-play guy was still trying his best before he fell into his own laziness later on.
9) Vince McMahon, JR, Jerry Lawler I wasn't sure if I was going to have JR and Lawler together or go for the trio with Vince, but I opted for the trio as I feel they brought out the best in eachother and while Vince is awful it reminds me of when I first got into wrestling watching so many In Your House tapes.
10) Josh Matthews & BillDemott Both seem like awful, awful people and Josh is an bad commentator too but Demott I found great and thought he was better than Tazz and Lawler at the time at explaining the heels actions and how the babyfaces had done the same bad things during their careers too.
So that's my list! What's yours

Gorilla and the Brain, no questions asked. I can put a blanket over the tv and still be completely engrossed just listening to those two going at it.
Honorable mention to Vince and Heenan. If only because The Brain would be his normal self, and you could almost HEAR Vince corpsing. Survivor Series 94 is a classic example.
Vince: "You know, Brain, I'm pretty sure Stu Hart can hear you."
Brain: "Who cares?!?!? By the time he makes his way over here, the show will be over!!!!"
Vince: "....Bobby Heenan..."

Excalibur and friends. Joey Ryan, Chuck Taylor and Kevin Owens (when he was still around) are my favourites.

Excalibur and friends. Joey Ryan, Chuck Taylor and Kevin Owens (when he was still around) are my favourites. One of my favorite bits from the PWG Commentary Booth That is Shaped Like a Table comes from Fear when Chris Hero joined Excalibur, when he was kind of in limbo regarding his WWE contract. Excalibur asks Hero where he'd been, and Hero tells this long weird story about hanging out with Adebisi from Oz in some weird Lost reference.

However, purely from an entertainment perspective it's Gorilla and Heenan. They were like an old married couple, played off each other perfectly and could make a dull match watchable due to their commentary. Much missed.

For sheer entertainment, Gorilla and Bobby.
For a serious wrestling approach, around '89, WCW was using various combinations of Gordon Solie, Jim Ross, and Bob Caudle. That can't be beat for me.

Gorilla and Bobby. They made it fun, which at that age I needed to keep me hooked.
Ventura was always good too, but for this younger (at the time....oh so young, so long ago...) fan he had an edge that took some getting used to. Vince and Gorilla were fine soundboards for him to play off of; Gorilla being the better, IMO, though Vince wasn't bad and was probably at his best working with Jesse.

In order...
1: Gorilla/Bobby. All time greatest.
2: Everyone else who ever existed or will ever exist.
3: The Raw/SDL teams.

Was it the following year that Worldwide had Lance Russell & Terry Funk for a spell? That was some good stuff, but Lance played it too straight as a PBP guy. I liked Lance when he told off guys that were being jerks...like Terry Funk.

Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura are my all time favorite. They had great chemistry and were able to capture both the details and the larger atmosphere perfectly. Add that they both had been wrestlers, they had an unrivaled legitimacy. They were the Madden and Summerall of Pro Wrestling
