And he's Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario and more) variety.com/2016/film/news/denis-villeneuve-dune-reboot-legendary-pictures-1201929280/I think he might knock it out of the park. I have high hopes for Blade Runner 2049 and I think this dude has the chops to do justice to a book that doesn't exactly lend itself to easy adaptation. As an aside, his Prisoners is horribly underrated. It's such a well-acted, engrossing film that, at times, is hard to watch. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal are both phenomenal in it.

Prisoners is one of my all time favorite movies. The only other film of his I've seen is Sicario which was great. Haven't seen Arrival yet which I heard is amazing. But Blade Runner is apparently his all time favorite movie so I'm really curious on what's he going to do with it. Even if it ruins the answer was is Decker a Replicant or not. Then again Creed ruined the answer who won between Creed and Rocky in there secret basement fight.

It is simple Deckard is a Replicant. Why else did his eyes flash.
I know I know the real answer changes depending on which of the what 6 versions of the film there is.

It had the ability to be underrated. But the third act is ridiculous. There's no reason to make it this elaborate thing about an underground prison maze. The movie had enough good themes up until that point without needing to tie it together with some bizarre twist. It's also a movie that fears to go all the way with something by giving us a happy ending at least in terms of the two girls being found safe. It reminds me of Man on Fire, where the themes are lost because the producers are afraid to go too dark.

I've said it before, but enough with Dune already.
Hyperion Cantos Stranger in a Strange Land (though I don't know how this would work) The Stars My Destination Rendezvous with RAMA (Morgan Freeman was attached back in the late 90s or so, but it went nowhere) Uplift Saga Red Mars (trilogy about terraforming Mars)
Give one of those a shot before giving Dune a third.
Uplift Saga and Hyperion Cantos are two of my favorites. Uplift Saga has a really great hook. The galaxy is built on patron species "uplifting" other species to sentience through genetic engineering (which incidentally comes with generations of servitude). Every species has a patron species....except humans, who have uplifted apes and dolphins. The rest of galactic society isn't sure what to do with this orphan species - some want to welcome humans as equals, and some want to subjugate us as a client race. In a few of the books there is a spaceship that has a half human and half dolphin crew, with half of it being filled with water. Some of the alien species are among the most inventive I've ever seen.
I'm not really doing it justice. I REALLY can't do Hyperion justice. It is sort of like the best possible version of Canterbury Tales in space. Just go read it if you have any interest in sci fi whatsoever.
But no, lets just do Dune again.

When one of the greatest living directors,David Lynch, can't make a good film outta Dune you know it is time to move onto another book. Hell, why not a film version of Neuromancer. Or hell any of Gibson's other stuff.

uh oh i DIDN'T LIKE either prisoners or sicario, not seen arrival yet either don't bode well for a colourful and wacky space adventure!
just get jodorowsky's verison done in 3D CGI and be done with it! oh and rendezvous with rama was a game

I just discovered that sometime in the 80s Marvel published an OGN of Neuromancer. And my lady kind of hinted she has found me a copy. Plus HIGH FIVE sir always nice to find another Gibson fan.

As a fan of the books, I would like to see them get the grand treatment they deserve. The David Lynch Version and the Sci Fi miniseries both had great aspects but fell short in so many areas. But I'm not sure the original book lends itself well to a film adaptation-its very heavy on the monologues and light on the action. I would think you'd have to break it into three separate films to tell it properly.
