A long time ago, someone on this board went to Caesars Palace, took a look around and suspected that the location of the event took place on what is now a parking lot.
Consideratng the fact that to the best of my knowledge, the place that Caesars Palace has boxing matches has always had a per ament roof over it, do you think that Vince could have made more money if the event was indoors?
Also, I remember the ads for WMIX in 1992in which Vince says that Las Vegas has become the new FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT capital of the world. I went to Las Vegas in 2010 and the tour guide said to us that a long time ago (presumably in the early 90s) that that was true. Can you imagine Las Vegas being the FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT capital of the world?

The Family Entertainment Capital of the World thing was a marketing phase for Vegas in the 90s. It really didn't last, obviously.

The event came at a bad time for the WWF. A little tweaking may have helped, but overall the atmosphere somewhat helped shield the fact that only 9,000 fans or so came to see the big show of the year.

Can you imagine Las Vegas being the FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT capital of the world? That town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played. Today, it's like checkin' into an airport. And if you order room service, you're lucky if you get it by Thursday. Today, it's all gone. You get a whale show up with four million in a suitcase, and some twenty-five-year-old hotel school kid is gonna want his Social Security Number. After the Teamsters got knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos. And where did the money come from to rebuild the pyramids? Junk bonds. But in the end, I wound up right back where I started. I could still pick winners, and I could still make money for all kinds of people back home. And why mess up a good thing? And that's that.

I think the attendance was about 15,000 but that was pretty heavily papered. 9,000 tickets sold could be right.

Funny, I watched that movie a few days ago.

Im sure WWE wants to keep WreslteMania as big as it could be in attendance for all the right reasons but I'm also sure there is a place for limited attendance high price admission show alongside WM. Especially now when there is a brandsplit Clash of the Champions event right after Mania would be a perfect candidate. The show where we get to see WM champions from both Raw and Smackdown go at each other as well as their Mania challengers getting a match against one another before the main event. No need for a storyline, simple WrestleMania legacy event like a cream on top. Would work most likely.

This show had a lot of potential, especially if your take away the roid purges and other talent issues (like Nailz being fired)
Flair should have probably been kept around to work with Perfect. Another thought would be for Hogan to announce that he was returning because he had one piece of business he needed to finish and that was to get rid of Flair once and for all.

It's not easy to work with Hogan like that, he only returned for the title and money. No Flair, no nothing but to top WM with the title win. Otherwise he wouldn't even come back.

Well....with the proper promotion, Flair vs Hogan should have been at least as meaningful as the Money Inc match. I never said he couldn't still force his way to the belt.

Funny story about Mania 9 in Basil DeVito's book. Apparently on the day of the show, one of the executives at Caesars Palace came up to him excitedly and said, paraphrasing "Hey, I just put a massive bet on Bret Hart retaining, the odds looked great". It took all DeVito's effort not to burst a gut laughing.
The books also got this bit where they had a special birthday thing for Vince in, 1992 or then abouts, and Hogan was there. A live mic got passed around everyone so they could say a few words to Vince, but when it got to Hogan, he just passed it aside.

I figure "Family Entertainment" is Vince's term for gambling and hookers.

For me it's the awful finishes that hurt Wrestlemania 9. With a little tweaking the card could have been fondly remembered. Tatanka beats HBK for the IC title Money Inc v Mega Maniacs is a non-title and Hogan hits the leg drop to get the win Flair stays around to lose the 'Loser Leaves WWF' match with Mr Perfect I'm sure having those matches end cleanly with the faces winning would have elevated the show from the gutter.

I maintain that although the card sucked, the staging of WM IX was one of the best ever.

We'll go with my memory was poor - from the WON: Thanks Dave! Even if there was only 9000 paid, that would still be way more than the seating capacity on the Caesars Palace arena, which only seats about 4500. Don't know why they just didn't run the Thomas and Mack center, though.

This way they could do it on the Strip with the Roman theme.
If the Raiders do end up moving to Vegas, I could definitely see Mania there before too long.
