Enters at number 1 wins the 2017 royal rumble and wins the title to close Wrestlemania 33. Yay or nay?

Yes, Roman Reigns could do this.

Lets just forget for one second what Benoit did later in his life and lets just compare Benoit 2004 to Sami Zayn 2016:
Benoit 2004: - Greatest Wrestler in the World from 1992-2004
- One of the most respected and admired wrestlers from Fans and other Wrestlers
- One of the biggest non Main event draws that the company had.
Zayn 2016:
- No real fan support on the main roster for the last couple of months
- avarage wrestler if you take the current workrate of the roster into account
- did not prove anything as of now
Yeah sure, lets give him the Benoit 2004 treatment

Not currently. With the proper build, certainly. But with dude's character and where he's at on the card now? Nah.

The 2004 Benoit treatment would involve being a third-wheel quasi-afterthought in the midst of another high-profile feud between two veteran main eventers.

I thought the "2004 Rumble Benoit" treatment would involve not getting any billing in the match despite winning it. "The 2017 Rumble featuring Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, and more!"

But he still wins the belt, so that's the important thing, right? Seriously, Zayn has only been on the main roster for a little bit under a year. There is plenty of time for him to get the momentum and following he needs to warrant a world title run.

But yeah Benoit had 4 great years in the WWE prior to his Royal Rumble win plus many years of exposure in WCW. Sami Zayn's 2016 in a nutshell was "I HATE KEVIN OWENS" & "I CAN LAST 10 MINS WITH BRAUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN I H8 U MICK I H8 U QQ!!!!1~"

I really hope they move away from entrant no.1 going all the way trope. it's getting tiresome.
It's different from Benoit because Benoit has had world title matches before and he's a credible threat. He beat Lesnar via submission just a month before Rumble so he has that credibility. Zayn is being booked as underdog and he celebrated a time limit finish over Strowman and he really has no credibility except his brief 'i also beat Kevin Owens once' thing.

Honestly I don't want Zayn anywhere near the Mania main event at this point in time. I like him plenty but he's really not all that hugely over and I don't really take him as a threat on that level.
Plus it'd probably be with Owens and I'm perfectly fine with letting that feud continue to be dead for the time being.

I'd rather he didn't win. I like him, but the timing isn't good.
Give him a good showing, maybe some notable eliminations, like if he dumped Roman and someone if they were fighting in the ropes, and I could see that getting him some credibility with the audience.
And while I like Roman, I think dumping him earlier than expected would get the crowd happy, not to mention the iron rod out of their ass so they can enjoy the rest of the match in peace.

That's assuming Reigns is even in it in the first place, given he's the Universal Championship challenger on this show. Like, it's not very often that the world title challenger backs up in the Rumble, although they had Ambrose, Owens, Kingston, Henry and Swagger back up from matches earlier on in the night last time... Toss of a coin.

No
I like Zayn but he's not that over and been booked like a chump. He needs a slow build. Give him a veteran mentor and tag run similar to Rhodes and Holly.

Unfortunately, I feel they will never give Sami a main event run. After his feud with Kevin Owens, they've really done nothing with him. Besides a feud with Braun, and Stephanie hating him for some reason.
And as a Zayniac, this disappoints me. He's been my favorite since Bryan retired and Punk left.
Hence why I don't really watch RAW anymore.
