I decided to act like a journalist at this time of the year and gave out some awards in the world of professional wrestling for the year 2016. These awards are basically based off of the way The McLaughlin Group did their year end awards. Check out this link if you'd like to read them.

{Spoiler}Biggest Winner: The UK Wrestling Fan – The UK wrestling scene had been dead for a long time, but over the past couple of years, certain organizations started coming into their own, especially in 2016. With organizations like Progress, IPW: UK, WhatCulture Pro Wrestling on the scene, it has opened the door big time for the sport. With ITV reviving World of Sport and WWE looking to have their own show based in the UK with a major tournament happening in January of 2017, the UK Wrestling fan will be spoiled for choice, and that makes every UK Wrestling fan a winner.
Biggest Loser: Michael Bennett – Considered a real get by TNA at the start of the year, he was destined for big things. However, shortly thereafter, he was exposed to be all hype and no substance. Delivering sub-par matches, even for TNA standards; having his wife outshine him at every single turn and being destroyed on the mic by Robert Irvine are three of his biggest lowlights of the year. His stock may never be as high as it was at the end of 2015, but it can't get much lower than now.
Best PPV: WWE Battleground – Battleground had a reputation of being a really off night, so even if the show was somewhat passable, it would have been a success, but nobody could have seen the show being as great as it was. With such great matches as Kevin Owens Vs. Sami Zayn and the Sasha-Bayley Vs. Charlotte-Dana Brooke, and the Shield Triple Threat, it was a great start for the New Era of WWE.
Worst PPV: WWE Clash of Champions – Smackdown's branded PPVs have memorable moments and are really enjoyable. However, Clash went to show you why RAW's PPVs are just gussied up episodes of RAW. None of the matches felt like they had any weight to them and I blame all of that on the poor storytelling that RAW is doing right now. This show should have been a breakout show with matches like Sasha/Bayley/Charlotte, KO/Rollins and New Day/The Club, but they all fell flat and the Best of 7 ending in a No Contest, left RAW fans out in the cold.
Broken Matt HardyMost Valuable Player: Broken Matt Hardy – Matt started 2016 as a pariah of TNA. But a rivalry with his brother making him go insane and “breaking” him, he has made three of the best matches in TNA this year in The Final Deletion, The Great War and Apocolypto. With 2017 looking to be even bigger for his Broken Brilliance and another heir to the Hardy Brand on the way, Matt Hardy should be breaking more things and making wrestling great again.
Least Valuable Player: Roman Reigns – I tried to look on the bright side after Roman lost the belt at Money in The Bank 2016 and seeing it as time to rehab his reputation, but all that hope is long gone. From a disaster of a program with Rusev, and treating the US title like it was nothing more than a paperweight when that title was meant to rehab his reputation, he's now in a disaster of a program with Kevin Owens and will continue to see his stock fall harder in 2017.
Defining Moment of 2016: Cody Rhodes leaves WWE – After wanting to shed the Stardust gimmick for the longest time and creative having nothing for him, he up and left to go be himself. That in itself was a bold move, but turned out to be very successful as he's a gigantic draw and has had great matches in ROH, WCPW and at the end of 2016 became a new member of The Bullet Club. Cody Rhodes is proving WWE wrong right now that he didn't need a Goldust knockoff gimmick to get over, he just needed to be himself.
Best Idea of 2016: Total Nonstop Deletion – At the current height of Broken Matt Hardy, they let the entire last original episode of 2016 of Impact be based all around the Hardys and their broken-ness. With King Maxel beating Rockstar Spud, Vanguard 1 getting smothered by ODB's chest, a living Skarrsgard, the return of the Hurricane, and a great match between Bobby Lashley and Eddie Edwards which might still be going on, Total Nonstop Deletion was actually Total Nonstop Entertainment.
Worst Idea of 2016: CM Punk goes to UFC – After all the hype and the fanfare, hoping to recapture the magic that Brock Lesnar did in UFC, his fight against Mickey Gall will go as one of the biggest one-sided affairs in UFC History and doing all the wrong things i.e. trying to strike against a grappler and getting punished for it by tapping out in less than 3 minutes. This proves that Punk should just stick to wrestling, maybe reinvent himself like Cody Rhodes did.
Most Underrated: Bobby Lashley – While Broken Matt Hardy was getting all the headlines, it was Bobby Lashley and his Winning All The Gold in the middle of the year that was the most impressive. He defeated everyone in his path to capture the TNA championship, the X division title and the King of the Mountain title. He was a shining star for TNA this year that needed to be promoted like a true conqueror like Brock Lesnar is claimed to be….and Lashley doesn't get gassed 3 minutes into a match and overly rely on Suplexes.
Most Overrated: Brock Lesnar – 2016 was a shit year for Lesnar, having some of the worst matches in WWE this year, especially against Dean Ambrose in what could be a lazy No DQ match where he didn't even take a bump or anything like that, to getting busted for PEDs at UFC, to losing to Goldberg in under 2 minutes. Lesnar needs to have a massive 2017, otherwise it's the end of the road for the Beast Incarnate.
Enough Already! Award: The Young Bucks – I can't for the life of me figure out why these two spot monkeys are as over as they are. They rely on a finisher as set up moves, glommed on to the Bullet Club name and doing it more harm than good, and because they are Bullet Club, have the ROH tag belts just because the division is nothing right now. They are living on borrowed time and need to go.
Macroprediction for 2017: I predict that 2017 will be the year that Impact Wrestling finally rights the ship. With Anthem now in charge, they will do anything to make Impact watchable. If they can harness the popularity of Broken Matt Hardy and highlight all the capable workers they have right now, they can regain their standing in the wrestling world after being on a massive freefall since 2013.
I would like to wish all the readers at AngryMarks a safe and Happy Holiday. From myself and all of us at AngryMarks, have a great holiday, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! BYE BYE!
