It seems that when the brand split occurred the curse of the Intercontinental title left it as it fled to Smackdown and now lays with the Universal Title. The IC champ actually wins most matches while the Universal Champ is jobbing left, right and centre. The funny thing is Miz hasn't won a non-title match while champion since September, it just isn't quite as noticeable since he doesn't actually compete most weeks, has fairly frequent free-TV title matches, and most of the matches he's lost have been tag matches.

What's the point of Jericho being in a cage at the Rumble if Reigns was/is able to beat Owens with him around anyway. Dumb booking.

I think my favorite line was when they were talking about how Roman clearly sees being the US Champion as an honor, and how he's been wanting to defend it.
Because... really? I'm pretty sure if they didn't mention he was champion, I would forget he's lugging it around.

I'm getting flashbacks to Rollins/Cena of late-2015 (feel to need to add the date because they essentially feuded on-and-off for a year). Rollins keeps the main, but get whooped in the process. Mind, this reprise doesn't have the 5* open challenge series to dampen the sourness of it all.

This is like a royal flush of WWE booking right here. Interpret that as you wish:
1. Champions losing clean in non-title matches in general 2. Champions losing clean in non-title matches to their next title challenger 3. Giving away a full-length (10 minutes or more) match on TV that you're also trying to promote for the next PPV 4. Giving away a full-length match on TV that you had on the last PPV
And that's without even naming any specific wrestlers. You could put Battle Kat and Man Mountain Rock in there for all the difference it makes.

But it's nothing new, it's been done since 97/98 from what I can remember.

No one wants to admit it but Owens been a bust as Universal champion before he tangled with Roman. He wasn't exactly on a hot streak when he got inserted into the Universal title picture. He only won the belt because Triple H knocked out both Rollins and Reigns. Spent the time after that losing to Seth in non-title affairs or sending Jericho to do his dirty work. Lasted for a couple of months with Rollins more concerned about getting his hands on Hunter than beating Kevin for the belt. Jericho breaks out with the List of Jericho and Owens is now his second banana & straight man to a comedy act. Moves on to Roman. Repeat of his feud with Rollins except Owens got even less cred because the lack of definite wins and title defenses. And when Balor is cleared to return, he'll do the same expect win back the Universal title.
Honestly, Roman winning the Universal title would be better than what we are getting now. Owens has regressed since winning and unlike Seth's time during the Authority as world champ, the odds aren't stacked against the faces to make you want to hate the heel champion. Jericho in a shark cage. Not like NXT did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and Ellering still managed to interfere. Owens needs to rebuilt back up. Back to the basics. Minus the comedy routine. Because Braun is 1000% more legit than the current Universal champion. Hell, he's more legit than anyone else in WWE right now. Give him the belt and watch the money roll in. Strowman is like Brock minus the German suplex spamming and Heyman hamming.

Owens was great initially when he talked as of he were the second coming. Then he'd go out there and he'd win almost all of his matches kinda lending credence to his bolstering.
Now he does comedy skits where he and his BFF look like the keystone cops making dumb mistakes while Roman Reigns dominates.
Why would anyone want to be a champion when it means you just get punked by Roman reigns every week?
The desire to make Reigns as Cena v2.0 still baffles me. Why him out of everybody else ?

Yes Brock has/had the destroyer aura and Goldberg murdered him, AJ still would not be out of place in the ring against them or beating them.

Styles also came off good against another "Career Killer", John Cena. The feud that actually dragged AJ down was the one with Ambrose and I say that as a fan of Dean. Adding Ellsworth to the mix didn't help out things.

Reigns fills in the push/feud stopping/killing void left by ceener.
Local Reigns ruins everything.

Reigns should break Bruno Sammartino's record and do it entirely in 2 minute squashes

Reigns should break Bruno Sammartino's record and do it entirely in 2 minute squashes His opponents lay down in the ring for the honor of being pinned by Roman, the greatest wrestler in the history of our sport.

Strowman is like Brock minus the German suplex spamming and Heyman hamming. I think most people generally agree that Owen's reign as Universal Champ has been a bust the whole time. It's just that most blame it on booking. The way he was given the title, the way he's been treated, the fact that he barely wins. If we had the Owens that burst onto the scene with a win over Cena who was cocky as hell and backed it up, I think this reign would have been great. Unfortunately, they seem unwilling to commit to giving Owens any kind of momentum because he wasn't the original choice for their champ.

All champions are busts. There are too many of them, and none of the titles matter.
Even AJ. He's doing great work, but it's got more to do with the chemistry he has had with Dean and Ellsworth.
The title is a complete non-factor. You could remove it entirely from the equation and it wouldn't make any difference to me.
