10 or so minutes to the start of a slightly soggy China GP.
It's not been declared a wet start, this could get interesting quickly.

Away we go! Clean start, except for Sainz who has gone off the track on the dry tyres.

Stroll knocked off the track with some contact from another car, it seems.
Replays show it was Perez who hit him.

Vettel under investigation for being out of position on the grid.
He was way off to the side.

Giovinazzi, still subbing for the injured Wehrlein, has crashed heavily on the main straight for the second time this weekend.

He's out the car and looking fine.
Safety car will take the cars through the pit lane.

Grip looks like being an issue still, with Bottas having a spin under safety car conditions.

Verstappen is having a great race. He had an amazing start and the conditions don't seem to be bothering him at all.

Poor Hulkenberg, He gets a 5 second penalty for overtaking under the Virtual safety car and then a 10 second penalty for overtaking under the actual safety car.

I have to say, bassed on the preseason expectations of no passing, this has been an exciting start of the season so far. Tempted to crack open another pint and show up tomorrow at work a little tired and ride this one out.

Tempted to crack open another pint and show up tomorrow at work a little tired and ride this one out. Martin Brundle said it best in the commentary; the amount of overtakes have gone down this year, but it's led to more 'organic' overtaking in it's place. Much rather that then people blitzing on the straights with DRS.

In the States we get David Hobbs, Steve Machett and Leigh Diffey calling the race so I rarely hear Brundle commentary unless I miss the race and go thru unofficial means to watch it, which rarely happens anymore since most races are uploaded to the NBCSN website within hours of the race.

Jimmie on a day like this with no fluids, ouch, no wonder he looks like hell. Hell of run today though.

James Hinchcliffe won the Grand Prix of Long Beach, his first win since New Orleans in 2015. Sebastien Bourdais finishes 2nd, which means for the second straight race Dale Coyne Racing is leading the championship. Coyne has both of his full-time drivers in the top ten, with series Rookie Ed Jones in 7th.

Very interesting.
Fernando Alonso will be competing in this year's Indy 500.
Meaning he will miss the Monaco Grand Prix.

We shall see.
If he is successful I could see him leaving F1 at the end of the year and doing indy car full time.
I imagine he is getting proper fed up with Mclaren Honda constantly going backwards rather than forwards.
I'm not a massive Alonso fan but admit he deserves better than this.
He is a 2 time champion but it really should be Atleast 5 at this point.
He should have at least won it twice during his time at Ferrari but I guess that's just the way it is.
Anyway, Nigel Mansell was very successful when he jumped from F1 to Indy car. No reason why Alonso shouldn't be.
