So just did a NASCAR Fan survey, they were really pushing the idea of a Regular Season Champion with them gaining an advantage in the Chase. Also, about the length of races and if it made it so drivers weren't racing hard the whole race.

Also, about the length of races and if it made it so drivers weren't racing hard the whole race. Just kill the Chase. As far as the races go, I like the idea that Dale Jr. and a few others had, of going to a Saturday night dirt track format with qualifiers and a main event. That, or running in segments. From a fan perspective, they have to do something to stretch the time out. They're losing fans as it is, and making races shorter will only exacerbate that.

Looks like Formula 1's worst kept secret is about to be made public, and that's Valtteri Bottas taking the vacant Mercedes drive for this coming season. Felipe Massa will be un-retiring to take the vacated Williams seat.

It was a great night of Supercross racing in San Diego Saturday night. Ken Roczen made it back-to-back wins to start the 2017 season, but it wasn't easy, as Ryan Dungey was on his tail for the entire 24-lap main event. Dungey's Red Bull KTM teammate Marvin Musquin rounded out the podium. The 250 Main was a thrilling race as well. It was a four-man battle for most of the race. Like Roczen, Shane McElrath won his second straight to start the season, but it took a late-race pass of Martin Davalos to get the lead and eventually the victory. Davalos faded, resulting in Justin Hill and Aaron Plessinger rounding out the podium. This weekend, its a trip back up I-5 to Anaheim for the second and final Anaheim race of the season.

So I love how NASCAR seems to be going in the complete opposite direction of fan feedback re: the points system with... whatever the hell the newest point system is supposed to be.
As a 20+ year NASCAR fan, it pains me to say this, but good Lord, they need to fall hard just to get some new management. I don't know if the newest point system is Brian France's work, but he makes Vince McMahon's response to fan feedback look restrained and measured.
Something something family businesses and the third generation...

Something something family businesses and the third generation... Tell me about it. I don't want to sound like a bitter old man, but to me points should be simple. You run X amount of races. Drivers are awarded points for where they finish those races, with maybe some bonus points for leading a lap or the most laps in the race. Whoever ends up with the most points at the end of the season wins. I just hope with Liberty taking over F1 and Bernie moving on they don't try any points gimmicks in that series.

What in the flying f***, NASCAR? This is NOT what anyone wanted! I commented earlier about the races being in a Saturday night dirt format, with heats and a main. Do something like that, to split things up. Run every weekend like the Daytona twins (but a lot shorter), then a main race. And award points for the finish. Do a bonus, do your stupid playoff. But this is unnecessary, complicated, and stupid.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/38723001The F1 Liberty Media takeover deal is done, Bernie is no longer running things. Ross Brawn is also back to lead the sporting and technical side of things.

What the hell? Why is NASCAR using Common Core Math to determine a champion?

Honestly, has there been anyone outside of the NASCAR home offices that has admitted to LIKING the new points rules?

Just realized I didn't do my Supercross recap/preview. Here goes. Anaheim 2 is in the books, and there were some huge happenings. The big news is the nasty wreck of points leader Ken Roczen in the 450 main. Roczen suffered a dislocated left wrist, dislocated left elbow and a compound radius fracture. So he'll be out for a while. Also, after the first heat race, Jason Anderson was disqualified after shoving (they're saying punched, but even on the video he pushed his head) Vince Friese because Anderson felt Friese was racing him too hard and caused Anderson to crash. So it was a shitty points night for the Husqvarna rider. As for the racing, the 450's were dominated by 2-time defending series champion Ryan Dungey. The only rider who seemed able to cut into Dungey's lead was Roczen, at least until his crash. Dungey's win was his first of the season and put him into the series points lead. Dungey's Red Bull KTM teammate Marvin Musquin finished second, and Roczen's HRC Honda teammate Cole Seely finished third. As for the 250's, it was Monster Energy Kawasaki's Justin Hill capturing his first win of the season, after making an amazing pass to go from third to first then pull away. Aaron Plessinger (Yarmalube Yamaha) finished second, and Shane McElrath (TLD/Go Pro/Red Bull KTM) finished third, which was good enough to keep the points lead. This week, the series leaves the Golden state and travels to its neighbor to the southeast, as they will be at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Race time is 10pm on Fox Sports 1.

It seems people like the new format because it'll result in less commercials during green flag racing. I'm hoping that's true as more racing on TV is always a good thing.

Round 4 of the Supercross season rolled through Glendale, Arizona last Saturday, and Eli Tomac's Monster Energy Kawasaki was that: a monster. After failing to live up to his own and others' expectations through the first 3 rounds (with 5th, 6th and 8th place finishes), Tomac stormed away from the field from the drop of the gate to dominate and win the 450 Main. Chad Reed, the old man (at 34) of the circuit, recaptured some of that magic he previously had and brought his Factory Yamaha to the podium with a 2nd place finish. Series points leader Ryan Dungey rounded out the podium. Dungey's teammate, Marvin Musquin, missed the podium for the first time this season and finished a disappointing 9th. In the 250's, Justin Hill brought his Monster Energy Kawasaki home for the victory, his second consecutive win. The win brings him within 4 points of 250 west leader Shane McElrath, who finished 2nd. Hill's teammate Austin Forkner rounded out the podium, his first podium finish this season. Round 5 brings the series back to California for the final stop this season in the Golden State, as we go to Oakland for a rare afternoon (west coast time) race. Coverage starts at 7pm eastern on Fox Sports 2. Track Map:

A rutted-out track made for interesting, technical racing Saturday night in the Oakland stop on the Supercross Tour. Eli Tomac rode the momentum from last week's win to make it back to back victories on his Kawasaki. As Ryan Dungey raced his Red Bull KTM out in front of the field, Tomac had a poor start, coming out of the gate 7th. He was able to fight back, find his rhythm, and track down Dungey and Cooper Webb to get the lead and the win. Dungey was able to hang on for second, and Cooper Webb brought his Factory Yamaha home 3rd, his first podium finish as a 450 rider. The win brings Tomac within 17 points of Dungey's points lead. In the 250's, Austin Forkner crashed at front of field on opening lap as the he entered turn 2, removing last week's third-place finisher from the race. Martin Davalos got early lead, only to be passed by Justin Hill. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider ran away from the field, building a lead so big that even a crash by the leader couldn't be overcome. Hill's win was his third in a row and fourth consecutive podium finish. Martin Davalos brought his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna home in second place, followed by the Shane McElrath's TLD/Go Pro KTM. The win by Hill vaulted him past McElrath into the series points lead, albeit by 1 point. The series continues their trek east as next week's stop will be in the home of WrestleMania Star, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
