AFAIK, Martel has no heat with WWE, or anyone except Tom Zenk. He is out of the industry, running his real estate business.

What's Vince's heat with Martel?? The only thing I can find is that there was a "pay dispute" between him and Vince which led to Martel going to WCW. I doubt that would be a major issue though. That was the Supermodels deal in 1998, yes? He and Don Callis were going to come in as a tag team, he wasn't liking Vince's offer, WCW came in and gave him a better offer, Martel went with them and had that run with them instead (shortened due to injury, which ultimately ended his career). I vaguely remember seeing a shoot interview years back, where that subject seemed to come across as the most contentious thing in it.....and it wasn't really even contentious at all; so the idea of him being pretty easy to work with isn't ludicrous whatsoever. I think he's just done with wrestling and has his own things going on now which make him happy. It's the kind of fate we hope for all wrestlers, though it sadly ever seems to happen for the most part.

In fact, I just looked at his Wikipedia page and noticed that Martel made an on-air appearance at Night of Champions 2007, so that rules out the idea that any alleged heat between Martel & Vince is due to pay issues dating back to the 1990s. As you say though, it's good to see a rare example of somebody from the 1980s WWF scene living a quiet, peaceful, successful and healthy life away from the wrestling business.

I'm surprised more people aren't aware of this - it's the first thing I immediately think of when posters have been talking about the bad beef - but then it was almost 10 years ago now and I'm an old codger who was actually alive during the Hulkamania years and stuff.

Yeah, even Don himself said "he screwed up" by signing the contract for the opportunity before Martel was signed. He just assumed it was a done deal.

Seems to be fire to the rumor that Rick Rude is going in.

I take that back, this will absolutely be my favorite lineup ever. 100% that we'll get a Shockmaster callout too.

Christian makes no sense to me but I am not a fan either. I was going to say I'd be surprised by the Disasters since Rude is going in but they did the Freebirds and Bossman last year. IRS would make sense but I wonder if they'd let Bray take part in the induction.

I'm not a huge solo Christian fan but he is part of the TLC Trio and is absolutely worthy of an HoF spot on his tag work with Edge alone. But I don't see Edge and Christian going in as a duo when Edge is in on his own, and I don't see them breaking the "only person in twice is Ric Flair" for Edge.

Bryan's the headliner next year. This year I'm guessing the headliner will be The Rock. Even if it's Ali getting it this year and not Lauper? Yeah. Whilst Ali is undoubtedly a Legend and was one of the reasons Wrestlemania was a success, his involvement was a one night deal. But as stated above, she's in Australia over WM weekend this year, so at least I can tell myself "she was asked but couldn't make it". In WWF for Wrestlemania? Maybe. But then you have Ali/Inoki, you have Ali's work with Mid-South and WCW, even being the lynchpin for the Collision in Korea and biggest wrestling gate in history (albeit compulsory)...he did a lot more than just "Wrestlemania", and his wrestling connections are AT LEAST as big as Lauper's. Martel is a prick & charges people just to interview him. How is he a prick? A lot of people have said he's a nice guy. Plus you can't tell me that they keep "pricks" out of the HOF. In terms of charging for an interview, I don't know the details, but a lot of people do that. And neither of those things explain Vince's heat with him. Is he a part of that frivolous lawsuit? He's not a part of 'that' frivolous lawsuit, but he WAS one of the people who testified against Vince in the steroid trial (and the smallest name of the 'established' ones- so people like Hogan/Piper would still get in, but you can ignore Martel by comparison. (If Martel's happy in his own real life, he wouldn't exactly notice otherwise.)

Christian makes no sense to me but I am not a fan either. Half of one of the greatest tag teams of all time, 2-time WWE WHC, 2-time NWA champ, multi-time IC champ, multi-time ECW champ, multi-multi-time tag champion, LHW champion, European champion, Hardcore champion.... Not being a fan of the guy is one thing, to say his induction "makes no sense" to you is just baffling.

Yeah, I guess a better way to put it would be that he isn't a guy that springs to mind when I think of a HOF. The case can be made for it, the career deserves it, he'd just be far down my list.

I'm really curious now to see who the headliner is. Doesn't seem like either dude is ready to hang it up for good.
