I've been wanting to increase the amount of water I drink, but I'm not sure how much I should have. I know the recommended amount is eight glasses a day, but apparently that's just a myth? I've also heard that it depends on your body weight. If that's the case, then I supposedly have to drink about twelve glasses of water a day, but that seems kind of insane/dangerous?

You can kill yourself by drinking too much water, but that amount is so absurdly high that you more or less have to chug it by the gallon.
Just don't drink water "until it hurts". That pain could be when you are actively drinking it, or if your kidneys start to ache.
But otherwise, drink away my friend.

my trainer told me to drink a gallon of water a day at one point... but that was more to drop water weight than keep fully hydrated.

I heard that it doesn't need to be '8 actual glasses' because you get water intake from other drinks and even food.

I drink water until I hit the point where I have to pee clear every 10 minutes. Then I know I'm hydrated.

Not water, but had a question about drinking liquids. I was watching an old Parks & Rec episode, the one with the one telethon. And to fill time Leslie was gonna drink 8 glasses of milk but Ann stops her saying that will kill you. I know water and alcohol can kill from drinking to much, but even milk? I guess it counts for any liquid.

If you're urine is clear you're well hydrated, yes other stuff contains water but it's a hell of a lot easier to just drink a few glasses of it.
2 litres is recommended over here which would be around 8 glasses and that is reasonable. Don't overcomplicate it.

Also drinking a lot of something in a short space of time probably won't kill you as you are far more likely to urinate or be sick.

A gallon is good. 2 Gallons and you can risk water poisoning.

My office is stupidly hot so I'm drinking too much water, in addition I'm trying to eat more fruit and veg and forget to factor that in so a few times I've had too much and can feel my kidneys telling me not to make that mistake again.
Generally speaking it shouldn't be issue though, if your piss is mostly clear with a hint of yellow you're fine, if your piss is completely you'll know you've gone too far but that's not a big deal. It's usually only a serious problem if you stay like that for ages and can be fatal if you are doing endurance sports or taking ecstasy.

I've just started replacing my daily workplace Coke Zero with water, due to both health and cost reasons. I don't feel better yet (hopefully that will come) but if it's in moderation then it can't be a bad thing, right?

I drink about 2-3 litres of water per day. I've heard that too much is bad for you but I think around 2-3 litres is in the "good for you" range.
I like water but it does get a little dull, especially as I don't do tea or coffee and I limit my fizzy drink intake to weekends.

Had no idea this was real until I met some people who suffer from it. Something about too much water throwing your electrolytes out of balance. I drink nothing but water when I am at home or at my lady's place. If we go out to eat I will grab a soda. But never ran into any issues drinking nothing but water most of the time. Also on December 3rd I went to drinking nothing but water. In 3 weeks I lost right at 15lbs.

And yeah, they lose their minds.
