www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-01-17/deadline-warner-bros-in-negotiations-for-western-attack-on-titan-films/.111171Deadline Hollywood reported on Tuesday that Warner Bros. is in negotiations to get the film rights to the Attack on Titan franchise. Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them producer David Heyman would be on board to produce a proposed two-film project that would remake the 2015 Japanese live-action film adaptations. According to Deadline, the studio is hoping to develop the project after its live-action Akira film. Warner officially green-lit the Akira film in 2011, but the project has been delayed. Former Variety and The Wrap reporter Jeff Sneider reported last summer that Warner was targeting director Justin Lin ( Fast & Furious franchise, Star Trek Beyond) for the project. The live-action films based on Hajime Isayama's manga opened in Japan on August 1 and September 19, 2015. The first film earned about 600 million yen (about US$5 million) during its opening weekend while the second earned 327,915,700 yen (about US$2.75 million). Funimation released the films theatrically and on home video in North America. Isayama's original manga has also inspired two anime series — the second of which is slated to premiere in April — numerous spinoff manga, several novel series, a spinoff live-action television series, and an OVA. Two of the spinoff manga — Attack on Titan: No Regrets and Attack on Titan: Junior High — received anime adaptations of their own. Isayama launched the manga in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009, and Kodansha published the 21st volume in Japan on December 9. Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in print in English. Crunchyroll also publishes the manga in English digitally as new chapters are published in Japan. Source: Deadline (Anita Busch)

Well, it could hardly be worse than the Japanese one. Go for it.

An anime adaptation by Hollywood could always be worse than one done anywhere else Maybe, but it's a story that would heavily depend on special effects that are outside of what most Japanese cinema is really equipped to handle, starring a bunch of people with German names, etc, to where it really doesn't matter if they weren't Japanese, and in fact would actually make more sense, so if they were ever going to pick one to try, it's probably this one.

Yeah, but it's Hollywood and WB at that. They meddle with their own franchises that they know will sell, so imagine how much they'll meddle with something they don't know how will sell.

It's "special" humans versus "special" humans that can control giant bodies that eat people as a fear tactic. And there is a corrupt government.
It's not exactly like there's a lot that can be done to screw up, but people probably said the same things about The Last Airbender or other IP to Hollywood films.
I don't think it'll be on par with something you'd see from Cannon Films but the focus would be more on seeing things break and these CGI monstrosities.

They'll figure out a way to shoehorn Batman and a random love story into it before whining that the "source material just wasn't really there" after the movie bombs

Yeah, just about everything in Attack on Titan reads way more German than it does Japanese

An anime adaptation by a company that can't even do good adaptations of their own comic book characters. This should work out well.

Here you go, WB, you'll be needing this. Aside from Mikasa, everyone in AoT seems to be white, so unless they don't put one Asian girl/woman in there, yeah, no need.

The Japanese AOT movies were trash. Nowhere to go but up.
(Also....maybe AOT as a whole is pretty overrated as a story?)

(Also....maybe AOT as a whole is pretty overrated as a story?) It's a great overall package until they go full stop for a few minutes and then you have a couple of good fights, anime wise. A couple of relatable characters and mystery brewing is nice The manga is OK-ish, with a gigantic exposition dump going right now. But yeah, the internet overreacted in this one. One Punch Man is where it's at!

Considering how awesome the Attack on Titan Anthology made by Western writers and artists is, AoT is actually one of the few anime/manga properties I trust in Hollywood's hands as the original material is a convoluted mess.

I've never had the slightest bit of a desire to check out Attack on Titan honestly.
Though really, seems like probably should wait until there's, like, a single successful anime adaptation before diving right into what'd probably be one of the more expensive mainstream ones to make?
