I've said it before, but what you do is have them undermine one of DC's fictional countries govts. Bialya, Qurac, maybe Kahndaq
The last one could set the stage or at least allude to Black Adam.
But you make them a black ops team that thinks they're doing "good", but then realize Waller has more sinister motivations.

That would be terrible and nonsensical. Even him being Jason Todd would be terrible. But again Joker even existing in this universe doesn't make any sense as their Batman would most assuredly have killed him. Exactly. I've been complaining about this for months. If Batman is gunning guys down for transporting Kryptonite, how has he only punched out the teeth of the guy who murdered his partner? Seriously that was the major thing that turned me off of BVS (Other than Emo Supes who cuts himself with Kryptonite razors) Some two bit thugs deserve to die, but a psychopath and mass murderer is still allowed to roam free to do what he wants?

Joker being the villain would not have made him a better director.

Hence he shouldn't of been in the movie at all, at least the first movie anyway. This goes back to D.C. Doing a rush job and not doing proper world building. In our first movie we get introduced to the joker and find out he killed Robin. Can we at least get some swerve that Joker is Tim Drake That would be terrible and nonsensical. Even him being Jason Todd would be terrible. But again Joker even existing in this universe doesn't make any sense as their Batman would most assuredly have killed him. The Joker told him his mother's name was Martha, and he let him go. Martha being The Batman's safeword, apparently.

I'll at least give the guy credit for admitting he made mistakes. We don't have many of those guys anymore.
At least it's not like the director of Gods of Egypt who swears everyone is wrong and he made a great film.

I'd have left Joker out of it entirely, even before actually seeing the garbage that was his portrayal in it.
I mean, I get what they were going for, they wanted a more realistic take on Joker's usual style while not going in the same direction Ledger did, by playing up his tendencies to portray himself as a man of class but being as sleazy and dirty about it as a perverted homicidal clown would actually come off. It was just both written and acted incredibly badly.

The key word should've been "grounded". Suicide Squad really shouldn't be about going after world-threatening villains, more about covert ops and a "down-and-dirty" aesthetic. Oddly enough, I wish more of the movie felt the way their characterization of Captain Boomerang did.

Meh it would of still sucked.
Hell I reckon the short amount of screen time that Leto's Joker ending up saving the film from being truly terrible.

I'm amused that the conclusion is not too far from being that they should have done Assault on Arkham, live action version.
