Fans called the cops when Vince's limo exploded. Pretty sure WWE business had to put out a press release stating "No Vince isn't really dead" because some stockholders were freaking out. Ditto when Raw was "sold" the WWE started plummeting until they issued a release saying it's a storyline for TV. (also probably why it was cancelled as quickly as it was)

Some of the fans, especially back in the day, would even try going after the heels themselves with weapons.
I remember hearing a story a few years ago about one of the top heel teams (it was either the 4 Horsemen or the Freebirds, can't exactly remember) going into the crowd and an elderly woman tried to stab one of them with a knife.

This was par for the course in Puerto Rico. Wrestlers knew to never brawl through the crowd, as anyone could get to them and stab the heel. One famous story had Ric Flair drop the NWA title to a local face and have him mail the belt back to the States because they knew Flair would probably be killed on the spot if he had won.

The pillman/Austin fun storyline comes to mind. Where the wwe themselves said people called 911 when Austin broke into Pillman's house , and a gun shot is heard as things go dark. Come on, now...that storyline wasn't fun at all. I remember a neighbor calling the police once because of what he saw on a Raw from Cleveland. Cracked me the f*** up.

He stopped showing up at meetings to sell the angle, and whether or not he was actually dead, that really f***ed up those meetings.

Heavily armed police patrol ringside at Puerto Rico shows. You'd best stay in your seat than try to rush the ring.

I never would have believed it myself until I saw Legacy come out, and while Randy Orton stood on the floor in the corner, two guys tried to jump him. Tried...Orton punched at both of them until 6-7 cops came over to carry those two assholes out. IT'S STILL REAL TO THEM, DAMMIT fans still exist here.

In regards to the selling of Raw storyline, the trouble wasn't the TV angle, it was that WWE released press releases trying to sell the damn angle.

On the Pillman episode of Prichard's podcast, he talked about how they had to call the local police department ahead of time to warn them about that angle because they knew they would be inundated with calls about the incident.

I'm personally completely fine with fans not wanting to stab wrestlers anymore.

Here's a incident like this but much much more recent.
XICW was a fed that ran the MS gulf coast back in the late 90s thru the early 2000s. Ran by Adrian Whisper. For one of their big shows he booked the Jackson County Fair grounds. Which is kind of in the middle of Pascagoula.
Now for some reason, still don't know why,but Adrian had booked New Jack to do a run in in the main event and hadn't told anyone on the show that New Jack was even there. So main event starts, was Adrian vs someone in a hardcore match. About 5 minutes into it NBK hits the speakers and New Jack comes running out with a can full of plunder. Starts attacking both guys in the ring. A lady that lived by the fair grounds was out on her back porch say this. And called the cops. The police station isn't far away. So a few minutes later cops show up and guns draw. Adrian had to stop the match and go tell the cops it was part of the show.
Turns out hte lady had called the cops and told them "Some crazy 'Goula gangbanger is attacking the rasslors at the show on the fair grounds."

I remember hearing a story a few years ago about one of the top heel teams (it was either the 4 Horsemen or the Freebirds, can't exactly remember) going into the crowd and an elderly woman tried to stab one of them with a knife. In smaller towns some fans still try to go after wrestlers with weapons. Like the SWA show we filmed over a week ago. Between the crowd noise, the mask I was wearing and my hearing damage I couldn't hear anything being said. After the second match ended, and I was doing heel commentary, the guy doing face leans over "That guy in the back room has been yelling at you all show. I think he is pissed." Then he pointed out the guy to me,who I we nicknamed Stabby. I start noticing that every match whenever I am cheering on the heels this guy is getting pissed. So during intermission I walked over to him "Sorry sir between all the noise and this mask while I know you have been trying to say something to me for a bit I haven't been able to hear you" And he loudly tells me "Well since you think you are so tough why not take that mask off and get in the ring and fight me." Told him that we were not allowed in the ring and that I didn't want to fight "Well then I might just wait for you in the parking lot." So thinking fast I asked him if he wanted to bet on the next match. Thinking hey get the guy to place a 1 or 2 buck bet on the next match might distract him. He agreed but wanted to bet a can of coke. His choice won the match and I got him a coke. But even after that he was spent most of the show turned around yelling at me. Found out after the show he is known for confronting the heels out in the parking lot and has pulled out a knife before.

There was something about people calling the police in Memphis after Eddie Gilbert hit Jerry Lawler with his car. Jerry had to go back on TV to show people that he wasn't killed. I just watched this as part of "The Best of Eddie Gilbert" DVD I snagged. Lawler's bump was rather insane - I am just disheartened that Lawler didn't sell the attack for too long. culturecrossfire.com/wrestling/best-eddie-gilbert-volume-one/The Best of Eddie Gilbert - Volume One includes his TV debut in the late 70's, his violent feud with Tommy Rich, the Concession stand brawl, Gilbert's famous WWF angle with the Masked Superstar, Wrestling a fan in Continental, tons of promos, and of course a heavy dose of the never ending Jerry Lawler vs. Gilbert feud that raged in Memphis for 10 years.

This seems so odd to me. For years WWE has been telling the audience that it's fake. It's like calling the cops because a villain is taking over Central City on The Flash. In all fairness to that particular incident, a few of the calls were from people nearby who weren't necessarily even wrestling fans and simply saw a massive explosion in a parking lot. I'm not sure I buy that, because the limo blowing up was filmed a day before.

I'm not sure I buy that, because the limo blowing up was filmed a day before. Actually, if there wasn't a show happening in the building, a huge explosion in a parking lot would be significantly MORE conspicuous in my book. Obviously it means the timeline was never explained along with the story, but I totally believe people would call the cops if they walked down the street and saw a car explode in a mostly empty parking lot.

^Watching a Heenan interview, at first they thought it was the fans breaking cups. Turn then upside down and stomp on them. It was when they saw a woman down that they realized, those weren't some knucklehead stomping cups.
Amphitheater regularly drew 9,000 fans. (Just something fun to add. I don't remember the actual number, but every show there had the same number listed.)
