officialfan.proboards.com/thread/545570/fan-idol-xi-crownedAnother Season of FAN Idol has wrapped up, seeing a spectacular finale pitting (Now) Three time winner Pegasus Warrior against the inimitable radradsley. Please use this thread to talk about the Season: the players, the Host, spiderfab4, the judges, the songs. Discuss your favorite rounds, song picks, roast yours truly's judging. And, if you wish, talk about Idol's future, it's past Seasons, potential spin-offs, and any other topics on your mind.

If nobody objects, maybe in a couple of months I host a metal-themed version?

I think that would be fantastic. Different contestant and judging pool potentially, which Idol definitely needs.

If nobody objects, maybe in a couple of months I host a metal-themed version? There's a recent thread in which you were the fourth or fifth one to post in, and it had a great pool of contestants to pull from. They really knew their stuff in the genre.

Just saw that Pegasus used Helplessly Hoping by Crosby Stills & Nash. Glee. I feel glee at this.

Sup, guys.
Uh, I kinda burned everything I wanted to say after I got eliminated, but I wanted to reiterate what a fantastic season this was. I had a blast, and I hope everyone else did too.
I'll update this post with my answers to these tomorrow cause I'm about to go to sleep, but to get some discussion going:
1. What were your five favorite songs of the season overall? (Preferably by other contestants) 2. What were your five favorite songs that you picked? 3. Favorite/Least favorite round? 4. Toughest Sing-Off? 5. Overall best setlist (for want of a better term)?

If nobody objects, maybe in a couple of months I host a metal-themed version? Go for it, dude. I love me some Metal and unfortunately, not only is it rarely played, it usually doesn't fare very well in FAN Idol. So it'd be nice to have an edition by and for fans of the genre.

And here are my answers to those questions I posted. 1. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Honorable Mention: Talk Talk - "It's My Life" ( Drillbit Taylor ) 5. Julian Casablancas - "11th Dimension" ( Knailsic From Now On ) 4. Claudia Bettinaglio - "Clap Hands" ( pegasuswarrior ) 3. Cast of Legally Blonde - "Ohmigod You Guys!" ( suave ) 2. Father John Misty - "Real Love Baby" ( Jeff Mangum PI ) 1. Fleet Foxes - "Montezuma" ( RadcapRadsley ) 2. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Honorable Mention: Bloc Party - "Song for Clay (Disappear Here)" 5. Youth Lagoon - "July" 4. Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam - "When the Truth Is..." 3. Regina Spektor - "The Calculation" 2. clipping. - "Story 2" 1. Cast of Heathers - "Dead Girl Walking" 3. Favorite Round: "Same Name, Different Song" looked simple at first, but it was a lot more difficult than I was expecting. Great challenge to figure it out. Least Favorite Round: I got such a headache from that "Quote the Raven" round. Not that it was bad, but it definitely gave me the hardest time. 4. Is it conceited to say me vs. Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a b!%@h? It probably is, but we were the only one to go to a bonus round, so... 5. Favorite Setlist: Gotta give it to my man suave. What Rad said about me beating him to the punch on a bunch of artists applies tenfold for me and suave. If he doesn't win one of these games one of these days, I'll be amazed.

1. What were your five favorite songs of the season overall? (Preferably by other contestants) I will go 10 instead of 5 {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} (in random order) The Roots featuring Erykah Badu - You Got Me Carly Rae Jepsen - Higher Santigold - L.E.S. Artistes Le Tigre - Deceptacon O-Town - All or Nothing Grimes - California Crazy Ex Girlfriend - Settle For Me Chance the Rapper - Grown Ass Kid Neutral Milk Hotel - Holland, 1945 The Avalanches - Since I Left You 2. What were your five favorite songs that you picked? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Cate Le Bon - Sisters Rebecca Pan - Lan Hua Nu The Flowers-After Dark Can-Vitamin C Air - Cherry Blossom Girl 3. Favorite/Least favorite round? Least is 84. Even though I liked my selection and thought people chose some good stuff,it was difficult finding something for this cause as this year for whatever reason is sort of a deadzone for me.As I have a lot late 70's -early 80's stuff am familiar with and a lot of late 80s alt rock bands. Favorite Round 9 Survivor-There are 9 tracks I think are 8/10 or higher for me and there isn't a single bad selection by anyone that round 4. Toughest Sing-Off? Sing off 6- Space Song vs Higher Imo 2 of the top 12 or 15 tracks of the season Glad I wasn't a judge on that one 5. Overall best setlist (for want of a better term)? Waffle I legit wanted to use about half the artists on his setlist at some pointed

Hopefully we can get a few new or newer players in the mix for next season. Fantastic contestant pool this time around, but there wasn't a single new player. Way too many cool people on this board not to get some others involved.
Very happy to judge this game, but it would be fantastic to get new judges as well. People like Mangum and chaosxeffect would be great to have judge.

The songs just kept getting better and stronger with each round. I definitely couldn't keep up with them and I give pegasus major credit for outlasting all the tough competitors in the game.
Whether I play, judge, or just watch for the next one...I know it'll be fun again. It always is.

In the vein of reality tv shows, I could see some kind of All-Stars Idol side game at some point. Noting a fellow mod and past Idol competitor's success at music trivia, a team fame of some sort could be great too.

1. What were your five favorite songs of the season overall? I am going to come back to this one. I really want to answer, but I want to be accurate. Such a great job by players.
2. What were your five favorite songs that you picked? Le Tigre - Deceptacon --A group that's never been chosen, and it's a song/group that kicks so much bootie. I love unapologetic women's kick-a**ery, and that's the lane this one largely occupies. I also liken its fate to a similar styled selection in another season that I judged. In the entire history of the game, Sleater-Kinney's Words and Guitar is one the best songs ever picked in the round for which it was once chosen, and it ended up 3rd. I'm not saying other judges screwed it. I had it 3rd. How was that even possible?! Le Tigre had an awesome song it was paired against this season and this choice's similar style to Sleater-Kinney just reminds me of that other scenario. I also just liked using it as a perfect closer to the season with its lyrics and the mic drop sort of ending.
The Cure - Love Cats I've never voiced this, but I have ALWAYS wanted a round theme that required picking a song that represents a style outside of singer/band's usual genre or type. This pick has been locked and loaded for such a moment. Not just because of Idol either. It's just such a freaking anomaly in the music library of The Cure. Jazzy, swing-era, scat-ish is so WTF for them, and the thing is, it just works like a charm. The lyrics are what I would imagine T.S. Eliot would've set to this music if given the instruction, "write a kind of love song lyric that also could be more than just a metaphorical love song." I think it's the basis of a freaking amazing musical yet to be written. But then again, it even transcends being put to stage. It's straight up equal parts poetic literature and music. Even without the music the lyric poetry and clever connections of sounds in words pop off the tongue and hits the ear exactly right.
Hop Along - Waitress --Good gosh, I love the narrative of this song, and the vocal and instrumental approach to it is perfection. I figured no one much knew this song, so unleashing this one fits right in with a good percentage of the intent of the game: hey, check this one out, you all; you might like it if you take a listen. I'd like to think Roxie Daggers or J or Veronica Sawyer might be marking out if they had a chance to give it a listen. It has identity. And if I'm sleepy on the road while driving and this magically pops up on the radio, I'd be ignited. Thanks to Iron Tyger's playlist, setting said playlist to random might actually accomplish this. It's up there as a contender for one of my favorite songs in all of music in the last couple of years.
Modest Mouse - The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box --Lyrical powerhouse of a song and one of the catchiest tunes I picked all season. When it fared as not great as it did in Round 1, I figured I was probably screwed in the game going forward. But it was one of my favorites, and I don't recall a song anything like it this season. It just burrows in my ear, and I can't not sing it randomly for days after hearing it.
Lady Lamb - Billions of Eyes --Unconventional. But it works so so well. This song's theme and narrative is perfect for me and my preferences. I'm just marking out that I got to use it in a completion. And that judges got behind it as well. Stream of consciousness (almost) and slight disorder that still makes sense and packs a huge punch lyrically.
3a. Favorite round? Already said that I loved picking Love Cats for a round that I've been waiting several seasons to play. "Choose a song outside of the genre the artist usually fits into."
I also loved the Lit round. I had about 10-12 songs right after reading the passages for that round. I won't list them all, but some of them actually meshed well with the 6 or so books/sources I recognized from the quotes. In terms of fitting with the theme of the round, the Shriekback pick nailed it, I don't care what anyone says. It was a really cerebral round.
3b. Least favorite round? I hate confining players to pick what a host or players want them to pick. So the Semi-Finals of picking from a slim list of artists wasn't my fave. I still liked the songs I got to pick, but I just wanted to use Bauhaus and that Billy Joel song out of my own free will at some point.
Although I like my pick, I'm not a fan at all of "choose a song from a genre you hate or an artist you hate." This is the second time this game has had that round. It never really plays out that well, and there is always a way for some contestants to weasel out of the intent of the round. And it also reminds me of the worst round the game has ever had where people had to choose the worst song they possibly could and then be judged by that. That was seriously the instruction: "pick the worst song you can find." Although this round isn't exactly that, it isn't so much a challenge round as it is a troll round from hosts and judges.
4. Toughest Sing-Off? Probably gotta be Art Garfunkel's "Bright Eyes" vs. Vampire Weekend's "I Think UR a Contra."
5. Overall best setlist (for want of a better term)? For the setlist itself this season top to bottom, Waffel and Z-A's kinda stand out to me. For the way the game was played, radradsley's has to get an honorable mention for that selection of songs. Just love the way he played the game.

Idk what my future is in these games. Metal isn't really my thing so I'll take a break. But after that, I really hope we're able to use this season as an example of how to run this game timely and efficently. We lost our host, and Spiderfab did a great job taking over and made the game run more smoothly. But us judges we're really on top of this in terms of working together and moving along. It felt more like "hosting by committee" with Spider making the final decisions. That may be the best way to run the game going forward. This was a much better judging experience than my first go during the neverending saga that was FAN IDOL 9
