DDP got the worst end of the InVasion by far. His debut tells you all you need to know about what they wasted here. King of the Ring 2001, he comes down to the ring to a shower of boos. Then he unmasks and the place EXPLODES. One of the biggest pops of the night. Then his promo is so damn good that the crowd instantly turns on him again. That is amazing work. And they jobbed him out mercilessly. Going to correct you but only because the moment was bigger than that. He went out and revealed himself on RAW. At Madison Square Garden. The WWE's home turf, the house pro wrestling help built. And he got the biggest pop of the night. The fact they looked at that and went "Yes, Taker should kill this guy hard" says a lot about how much they didn't give a damn about drawing money during the InVasion.

I was a fan of both WCW and WWE but the way they treated DDP in WWE was absolute crap. I'd cooled on him a bit during his Jersey Triad run but to treat the guy the way they did was ridiculous. Yes they put him in a feud with Taker. However, they completely buried him in the feud and ignored his success in WCW ("make me famous"). A lot of the WCW guys got a raw deal but his was one of the rawest. Giving him the European championship was almost like they were just giving a giant middle finger to his WCW fans. So, I'm kinda glad they didn't show his WWE run bs. According to Meltzer, DDP went to Undertaker with a full script for their match. Which got him tons of heat backstage (and especially with Taker). Then DDP got a reputation for not knowing how to work a match. Which pretty much sealed his fate in WWE. Meltzer also went on to say that all the guys now script their matches which makes the whole thing idiotic.

I believe the first time he used the "I'll make you famous" line was in the build to HHH/Taker at WrestleMania 17. I remember JR using it in the Jeff Hardy ladder match and remember thinking that was really cool to use a Taker line like that.

The thing is, along with Booker T, DDP was the only one that wanted to let his ego aside, lose money to go to the WWE and work with them cause he was passionate about wrestling and wanted to work. He had no animosity toward them. And they jobbed him out and made him look like a fool. So much for being a good guy. Maybe the others were right to stay at home and collect their WCW money.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed they ignored his WWE tenure, haha.
On the bright side, Page did win his only match at Wrestlemania!
