Renard in The World Is Not Enough Robert Carlyle as a Bond villain sounds amazing, until you realise he's a gimmicky henchman for Sophie Marceau.

I was always disappointed by Gennaro in Jurassic Park. In the book he was an all-round good dude who did his best to put things right when he realised he was complicit in a huge mistake. In the movie he was a stereotypical weaselly lawyer. And more recently, from Star Trek Beyond: One of the best actors of his generation, and you put Isis Elba under this shit for 90% of the movie and keep his motivations vague, when a bitter man-out-of-time who'd outlived his purpose in life by the time he was lost in space could've been done so much better.

I see a lot of people say they were wasting Idris Elba under that make-up. Maybe that's why he did the movie. I mean, he obviously knew he would be playing an outer space character with heavy make-up. He could be a fan and wanted to play an alien. Or he liked that his face/image of being a handsome actor would be gone, and he would have to emote with his voice and with what range he had with his make-up. As for the actual character, I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know, not a big Star Trek fan, but I like the movies. But his casting made me want to see it more. Elba as an outer space villain? Sounds fun.

I'd have had Idris Elba play Gary Mitchell. No need for shitty make up.
But of course, according to Robert Orci, a villain cannot be taken seriously if they are called "Gary".
Seriously.

Also they are doing a great job hyping Thanos... if they can pull it off we'll see however.

I was thinking more of single people as villains but your right Hydra as a entity has been done pretty well. As far as Thanos goes, I don't know. They haven't shown him enough yet for me to make a judgement. They've definitely hyped him as the end all be all of the MCU. I just hope they go balls to the wall and kill off main characters in Infinity War. Like I've said I think the Russos are an excellent choice to do these movies considering they're responsible for the darkest shit in the MCU.

Blofeld in "Spectre"
He was so crap, in my head canon, I've retconned him as an imposter.
The real Blofeld is running shit behind the scenes.

Oh yeah, Grievous. The Clone Wars series made him look like an absolute beast, some horrifying creature who was ripping the Jedi apart. I was excited for it based on that. The movie made him a weak wheezing loser with a video game weak point who lost on a lizard ride off and fought with a windmill. So lame. To be fair, the Clone Wars has a moment that sets up this "alternate" version of Grievous. Because of Clone Wars (Tartakovsky), Grievous is one of my favorite villains. But yeah, he deserved Doctor Doom levels of reverence in the motion picture, and for anyone unfamiliar, it really undersells him.

They may still turn it around.
But Artemis on 'Arrow' .. Such an interesting character on 'Young Justice' with her upbringing, family ties, and backstory. In Arrow, just some girl whose mad.

I still say the villains are the weakest part of the franchise because they keep killing off everybody at the end, except for Loki. I mean, when Red Skull, Yellowjacket, Ultron, & several others are dead, it limits the potential, in my opinion.

They can easily bring him back.

I generally don't have a problem with the characterisation of their villains, but killing them off in their first appearance really does bother the f*** out of me purely because this is an ongoing, interconnected universe, not a series of one-shot movies isolated from each other. Iron Monger, Lauffey, Crimson Dynamo/Whiplash, Alexander Pierce, Arnim Zola, Ultron, Baron Von Strucker, Aldrich Killian, Melekith, Kurse, Ronan, Crossbones, and I'm sure a few more have all been killed off in the movies, most of which could've been used again at some point.

Yeah, they showed the first instance of him being weakened, but he went so far into nameless good territory that it was distressing. Then he just continued to be punked out in the CGI series. To go from being this monster that Jedi are terrified of in the first series, to what he was in the movie and later on is just disappointing.

Doomsday. Both from Smallville and BvS.
Letos Joker. The look didn't leave much hope but...still had hope.
Raiden in MGS: SOL. Felt like I was playing as a bitch the whole time.
Ulron in AOU. Could of been so much more.
Onslaught in the comics.
Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. And I was pulling for him too.
Wrestling: Mordecai, Kizarny, Glacier, Brodus, Khali
