As a fan, I'm only wearing a jersey with my name on it these days. I feel weird wearing the name of some twenty-something year old who will probably leave in a few years.
I got a Pittsburgh Pirates jersey with my name and #55. It is currently Josh Bell's number, but that was my number when I played, and as a bonus...I also played first base.
My biggest pet peeve is wearing the jersey or hat of a team that isn't playing. Like going to a Pirates and Mets game, and seeing Cubs, Yankees, or even Blue Jays hats.

Grown men with their own name on a jersey is just flat out wrong. Might as well bring a glove to the game too.
I feel ya on not wanting to wear a guy who is younger than you's name and number, that's when ya just rock classic jerseys.
By all means, spend your money how ya like it. Just so you know though, we all point and snicker at the arenas and ballparks when we see it.

The worst to me is combining completely unrelated hats and jerseys. (Hello, all '00s rappers.)
For example: an STL Cardinals hat with an LA Cippers jersey - simply because both are red?!

I think the only time that gets a pass - and a very tentative one at that - is if the teams are from the same city. Even then, I don't like it.

An adult wearing a jersey outside a sporting event or a fantasy draft I wouldn't go that far. But maybe wearing it when not in season. Like wearing a baseball jersey in Dec. Or A football or Hockey jersey in July. My Colts replica jersey is light and comfortable for yard work or covering up so I don't get too much sun at the beach.

I wear football jerseys around all summer because they're so light and breathable. As for old jersey, new player thing, I'm a Leafs fan so even when they do change the jerseys it's usually minimal. The only ones I find look a little odd are the 70's design with modern names. But you could put Matthews on a 1995 jersey and it wouldn't look too out of place

I work for the Pirates, so I'm not wearing it to work anyways. That, and I got a huge discount. 😁

Off the top of my head, the Habs, Leafs, Hawks, Red Wings, and I guess the Devils are the timeless ones in hockey.

An adult wearing a jersey outside a sporting event or a fantasy draft I don't know about that. During the South TX winters, my Blackhawks jersey is perfect for the "cold" weather in the "winter".

The only jersey I have worth my name on it is my 2010 Sioux Falls Storm jersey. Stitched and everything. Got a couple friends with old Storm jerseys with their names on it, too. We're just a bunch of Superfans for an indoor minor league football team.
Although I do have a few Storm jerseys with current/former players on them.

I'll only wear one of those nameless jerseys. I own 2 nameless White Sox jerseys, because I'm that guy that wants to be different. I like obscure, I like the not-so-well-known. But you can't buy that off the rack. So I buy blank ones. Unless I ever decide to break down and buy a Jason Bere, Ross Baumgartner or Bill Naharodny.

Hell unless I'm going to the game I hate wearing a hat and team shirt or coat to a game. Makes me feel like a billboard.

Or A football or Hockey jersey in July. Ya, jerseys are fun to wear in season. Perfectly acceptable to wear one to a bar the night or day of game. But out of season just seems weird. Only exception is the succeeding months after your team has won a title. Win the World Series? Baseball jerseys in December is legit.

I'd rather have the glove than not if a foul ball is coming my way. I've been tempted to get a certain jersey that 1) is a great looking jersey and 2) has my last name on it, even though I don't root for the team.

I don't see why not, if your sitting in ball territory why wouldn't want to protect yourself. Bare handing a 100 mile baseball not the best idea. Younger than me player Jersey. I think 90% of the adults who wear jerseys are players that are younger, because the venues are full of current player Jerseys, what are the chances that all of them are younger. Take for example the St. Louis Blues, The most popular player is Vladimir Tarasenko who is 25, you can't tell me as many Jerseys I see at a game that all of them are under 25? I own one myself and I'm 34 and why? because he an amazing talent and I didn't have a Blues Jersey and wanted one. Anybody former player that matters if you want a Jersey of said player good luck. You can get one if there is the HOF because the team still sells them but cost twice as much. Other wise you have to look on E-bay unless you where luck to get one off the Clearance rack when they player retired or left the team.
