Rumours of a new Spawn movie have been around for years obviously, but with Todd McFarlene confirming its near-future exsistence recently (late last year iirc?) the biggest question (other than if it will be better than the '97 film) is...Who should portray the hellspawn himself? I know it's probably not a needed movie and way past the point of anyone caring but still... Who would you pick to be Spawn? It doesn't have to a safe choice, afterall, their previous roles have no bearing on their actual performance of a certain character. (Heath Ledger Joker, etc etc) One reason for this thread is that I've been on a Spawn kick lately and really want a good live action movie with the dude.

Todd's been talking about it for years. Just like Liefeld talking about movies for Youngblood, and Brigade, and all of his other properties.
Until there's a poster, or a trailer, or anything other than the owners of the property talking about how it's totally happening it's just bullshit.

I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future...There's something appealing about a Rated R Deadpool/Logan this day and age but a Rated R Spawn in 2017? I dunno..maybe.
As for who to cast, total blank. Maybe Jamie Foxx. Doubt he'd be interested in that kind of project though.

Yeah out of the original's issues, it wasn't him.

If he was older I'd say Michael B. Jordan would be a perfect Al Simmons. I just want a Spawn film that focuses on the emotional mental and spiritual battle between Heaven and Hell, make it dark and horrific, violent, and strong character development and you'd have a great film.
Also want to see horror elements involving The Violator, Malebolgia, and Billy Kincaid too. There's so much potential with a proper Spawn film it's not even funny.

As someone who read the first 60 or so issues of Spawn, I couldn't even begin to pick someone. In all of that time, I never got any sort of bead on Al/Spawn's actual character. He misses his family, he's depressed by his situation and he has little patience for others. That's about all I could tell you he was about, character-wise. Character's pretty much a blank slate for anyone to play. They could even reuse some of his Dark Knight lines again (as an in-joke) when he faces the Clown.

I also kind of like the idea of them pulling the Spawn franchise out of the muck with the same actor - just like they did with LOGAN & Hugh Jackman.

I agree bring back Michael Jai White because of all the things wrong with the original movie his performance was not one of them.
Oh and lets get Scott Adkins as the redeemer.

My only issue with Michael Jai White is that he's kind of become a Steven Seagal lite in his movies. In that he can never be shown to have any weakness, no matter how built up the villain is.

Yup. He's still in great shape, and a better actor now. It's not like most people remember the bad movie from 20 years ago anyway.

Yeah, so long as the person has a good voice, they're mostly in the clear to do whatever. It's not like he wouldn't be under a mask, CGI or otherwise, or heavy makeup the vast majority of the film, anyway.
