It's out next week, I keep seeing ads for it, and the old thread's been inactive long enough it's been locked so whatever, new thread.
I'm kind of curious to see how reviews shake out on this thing, but based on all the trailers and news I've seen on it I have three main thoughts at the moment.
1. Could this movie look any more generic?
2. I guess maybe it could, since at least they have the random pointless Paint It Black notes in an otherwise serious commercial for no apparent reason other than to be jarring.
3. Is Universal ever going to let the stupid, "Bring back the Universal Monsters!" thing go? They've been trying to revive that for like 40 years now and I have no idea why.

shows what I was paying attention.
Odd that it showed up in my regular Off topic search.... is the search function borked again?
and as for 4. they just announced THE DARK UNIVERSE!
So no...
this time for serious guys...

So no... this time for serious guys... Search has been really spotty for awhile now. It seems like it works fine if you go to Search on the main menu but it just completely falls apart trying to search within the board itself.

I won't stand for anybody besmirching the constantly bringing back of Universal Monsters.
You can bag on the movies by themselves... many of them deserve it... but leave my poor MONSTERS alone!
IT'S NOT THE MONSTERS FAULT!

I'm no fan of Tom Cruise, but this looks like a harmless film.

I'll probably watch it on like a $6 matinee some afternoon. Looks ok.

I'm really split on this one
on the one hand it looks SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPER generic.
On the other so did films like Edge of Tomorrow, Knight and Day, 2 Guns and a handful of others that I gave a flat-no to at first but actually turned out to be really entertaining.
Tom Cruise's track record with these kinds of action films is pretty rock-solid at this point so I'm gonna lean towards "it'll be Mummy Impossible, but still a run ride."

That plus I'm legitimately curious to see if they can put this monster universe together without it just bein shoehorned to hell.

I waited to watch Universal's Dracula Untold on cable and have no regrets about that. I'll treat this movie the same way. It's probably decent but I don't feel the need to go out of my way to see it.

That plus I'm legitimately curious to see if they can put this monster universe together without it just bein shoehorned to hell. Seems like they had it already built in to the movie. Russel Crowe's character seems to be the connective tissue for the films. His characters company "Prodigium" seems to be the one Cruise's character seems to end up working for. I'd imagine it'll be Cruise who is the go-to soldier of fortune to help deal with the other monsters.

So Crowe is apparently Dr. Jekyll then... ok. at least it won't come off as forced as the end of the last Dracula movie of the last shot being OHO the game is afoot! or whatever

I predict this is just going to be another King Arthur. The franchise will be DOA. Does not look interesting. Tom Cruise is not that big of a draw anymore.
Plus they built that big sarcophagus to promote it. And a wise man once said, the bigger the publicity stunt the shittier the movie.
