Every time I re-watch this movie it feels like a more bizarre and miserable experience. It might be my least favorite Batman movie.

One of my favorites.
Pfieffer's Catwoman was 6 year old me's first crush.

Yeah, It's not my least favorite... but it's on the lower end of my list. I will say I hate Burton's Gotham. It feels and looks far too small when it's supposed to be a giant metropolis, ESPECIALLY in this movie. Not to mention it doesn't have any real personality because well... it was a soundstage. Say what you will about Schumaker's adding neon lights everywhere but Forever and Batman And Robin's Gotham seems WAY bigger in scope.

"Life's a bitch and so am I...."
Was the movie Burton's (name redacted) in WCW 1999-2000 to him being (Redacted) during his WWF stay from 1997-99 for the '89 movie? Yes. But I still enjoy it.

It's the only Batman movie in history to feature Christopher Walken saying "unlimited poontang."

It's the only Batman movie in history to feature Christopher Walken saying "unlimited poontang." I remember seeing one of my friends down in the dumps and I told him to say that out loud and it would cheer him up. He looked at me like I was crazy. I told him to just try it. He did and he couldn't stop smiling after. It's an odd pick me up but sometimes it works. Don't know whether it's the concept or the way it rolls off the tongue, but it can bring a smile and help lift a mood.

I really like Batman Returns. It's my favourite live-action Batman movie. It feels like the only movie that gets into the psychology of the villains. Granted, that psychology isn't true to what you can read in the comic books per se. And the movie is focused more on the villains than the titular character, which is a fair complaint. But BR really hits home the idea that Batman's villains are broken mirror reflections of the man himself, which is something that most of the other movies never really captured.

It feels and looks far too small when it's supposed to be a giant metropolis, ESPECIALLY in this movie. Not to mention it doesn't have any real personality because well... it was a soundstage. It's like they just used the same set and area for every downtown scene. And I don't recall much driving around, which would've helped create an expansive feel to the city. The first one felt just right, and like you say the Schumacher films do feel like they're using large areas at least. BR hasn't aged well. It was always a huge letdown after the 1st one - Penguin and Catwoman weren't gimmicky enough for me, and that Burton dour which seeped into the set designs really didn't feel like a Batman movie.

My first Batman movie. Loved it. I get people's gripes with it. It's ironic cause Tim was over making comic book films before he even started "Return" and only wanted to do it to fix the "mistakes" he made in "Batman". And lo and behold, people look back way more fondly on the first.

I remember going to see it for my tenth birthday and having to stand in line that went around a NYC block just to get tickets. NYC moviegoers treated the first Batman and Returns as big events.

This is somewhere in my "middle tier" of Batmovies. I have it below Dark Knight, the 1989 film and the animated theatrical Batfilms, but that's roughly it. DeVito's Penguin isn't my definitive vision of the character, but I felt he did a good job with the role.

Batman forever blows this out of the water, IMO.
In terms of re-watch-ability, I even think I'd take Batman and Robin over 'Returns' *puts up flame shield*

Thread title made me think there were 24 sequels to the movie I didn't know about.
