I binged this in one day. It was great. It was really close to that show about the wrestling business I always wanted honestly. Netflix does these throwback shows perfect too, they get the whole tone right.
Also, good lord does Ruth understand how to be a heel or what? She is like freakin' Kevin Owens the way she talks shit in the ring, I love it. She gets it, WWE should sign her.

Yep, this further cements that Allison Brie is the hottest woman in Hollywood.

I'm up to episode 8. Love the show. I love how much of a love letter to wrestling it feels like. It never feels like they're making fun or anything.
Also if WWE doesn't do Liberty Belle vs. Lana at Summerslam they're throwing money away.

I binge watched this all night long, and I absolutely loved it. Everyone talks about how beautiful Alison Brie is, and while yes that is very, very true. The woman who stole my heart in this was Britt Baron, she was just gorgeous. But back to the show itself. My only real nitpick about the show is that moonsaults, and powerbombs didn't really exist in 1980's wrestling, at least not in America, but I can understand wanting to spice up the action somewhat so I'll give it a pass.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Ruth getting jumped by THE LOS ANGELES DEATH SQUAD (some random children) in Episode 1 - AMAZING. {Spoiler}I remember reading about how there were a couple of gangs in the 80's punk scene in L. A., one of them was called L. A. Death Squad. I wonder if they were supposed to be that L. A. Death Squad, or just a random group of kids (they didn't look particularly "punk rock" or wear any shirts of any bands from the scene.

So, about the end of episode three, were those the actual names of GLOW characters? Because a couple of them really seemed to be pushing the boundaries of good taste, even for the 1980s. Nah they weren't. On an aside I loved the pitch of the outlandish wrestling show with like post apocalypse and nuclear ware and whatever And all I thought about during that whole thing is that wouldn't have flown in the 80s but I could see someone trying to do that today since we have like Lucha Underground, CHIKARA, and stuff like that with magic, zombies, time travel and all sorts of crazy shit. I'm totally Justine with her punk style and love of exploitation films. Gotta love a woman who rocks a Dead Milkmen shirt before it was cool.

Most are analog to actual GLOW wrestlers. Debbie = Americana Ruth = Ninotchka Carmen = Mountain Fiji Melrose = kind of a hybrid of Hollywood and MTV Arthie = Palestinia Britannica = Godiva {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}In real life Godiva rode a horse which I think was a reference when Britannica said she wanted a horse. and Zelda the Brain She-wolf = Dementia Biddies = Housewives Jenny is someone who I can't find, but there was an Asian wrestler as part of the "bad girls". There was Lil Fiji, Mt. Fiji's little sister, but Jenny isn't accompanying Carmen yet. Cherry might be Justice, but I'm not sure. If that was her name. There was no Welfare Queen or a character close to that. There was Big Bad Mama, but she was a scary character. Edit* I did more research and I think I figured a few more out. Justine (Scab) is similar to Vine, who teamed with Hollywood. Vickie the Viking looks also made for the show.

Watched it in two sittings yesterday, absolutely loved it. All the ladies nailed it and Marc Maron is one of the most glorious Hollywood louses ever put on screen. Hoping it gets a second season confirmed soon as it leaves a lot of story left, both in the character arcs it set up this season and in what actually becoming a TV show does to the group. There were so many awesome lines and moments but one in the finale that stuck with me was {Spoiler}When Goliath Jackson shows up and leads the cheers for Machu Picchu, there's a quick cut to Bash at the announce desk and he looks like he's about to cry because he's so happy for Carmen. It was just such a sweet little callback to their talk after her panic attack earlier. Also, the shot of Keith flexing in the background in the ref shirt was glorious.

Obviously Matilda in the real G.L.O.W. had wrestling experience and was booked as a monster heel, but the overall gimmick could develop that way as she's athletically superior to the rest of the cast.

Binged watched it with the wife and we both enjoyed it!
My wife absolutely hated Allison Brie and said she was too annoying to be the lead character. Marc Maron was fantastic, but that role would have been perfect for Roddy Piper if he was still here.
The main issue I had with the show was that it made wrestling look like something easy to learn and that anyone could do it.

The main issue I had with the show was that it made wrestling look like something easy to learn and that anyone could do it. I didn't get that ... they had like 6 weeks to work on it full-time and learned basic stuff for the most part. And the real G.L.O.W. produced some average, some below-average and maybe a couple of above-average female wrestlers under similar conditions ... boot camp and then start filming. Which means it's pretty realistic for the most part.
