after most of that last bunch being.......horrible I felt compelled to list some much better things the opening montage for Fall Brawl 2000 This is pretty clever, especially for WCW. Given how many people out there do action figure matches on YT these days, I wonder if this might have been the inspiration for it. WWE should revive it for a December/Christmas Raw or SD. I don't care, I love mystical stuff in my wrestling! I also still grin at anything Kane/Pete Rose..... It's kinda weird to see the Druids' faces, I'm used to the more recent versions with their faces mostly covered (coughcoughDeanAmbrosecough) Your referee for this first encounter of the Brothers of Destruction is Jack Doan (the poor Bastard!) Taker made Kane look like a million bucks in this match to establish him as another monster for the then-WWF. Three tombstones to keep Kane down helped. I know that wasn't the first time the Spanish Announce table went down, but man that was pretty. I'm also a little surprised by the way this match was written that Kane didn't defeat Taker here. But if he had, there'd be no Streak to add to the WM mystique. The post-match Tombstone looked sick. Enough for an on and off war between these two over the next decade and a half.

WrestleMania 30 Triple H vs Daniel Bryan I love WM entrances by the EVIL KING DR LEVESQUE! If that makes me a mark, oh well I'd like to think this match is also an apology for "18 seconds". Your referee for this match, Lil Naitch (Lucky Bastard) WWE wishes they could get a crowd reaction that the crowd gives Bryan (and almost does to this day). HHH's smug smirk at the beginning of the match was the satisfaction that he was NOT Getting a cross-chant! While Hunter dominated about half the match, but that's how miraculous comebacks and storybook endings come about. I'm sure there were fans who were convinced that HHH was going to win this match and kill all that momentum. The "YES! / No!" chants during some of the exchanges sounds awesome. And EVERYBODY! LOVES! A BRIDGE PIN! (DB got two of them in) JBL: I'm surprised Daniel Bryan kicked out.... I think he's just doing it on instinct, at some point Daniel needs to show some sense and call this whole thing off. Cole: You don't really think Daniel's going to do that, do you? JBL: I don't think he has ANY sense.... Bryan kicking out of the Pedigree brought new life into this match. And the Knee That Beat John Cena, also Beat the Game! The post-match beatdown wasn't necessary, but this was still awesome, great story, and a great setup for the main event.

Spring Stampede 1994 The Great Muta vs Steve Austin Schiavone: How can [Muta] be a champion and not understand the rules? (beat) Don't answer that!!! The commentary is the highlight of this plodding match. I may not be a big fan of Austin but I know at that time he could do a lot better. The over the top rope DQ was bogus, too - but this was during the Jim Herd era, right?

-The Boss vs. Vader, Spring Stampede 1994 The "Gigantic Grudge match" which even before the bell rings had more action than Austin/Muta Brain: "Why do we even bother bringing a ring? No one fights in it!" I love shoot comments that aren't supposed to be shoot comments [/CRZ] They didn't call for a top rope DQ in this one(they had several opportunities), but I don't think the ref (Randy Anderson?) wanted to argue with either of them. Vader lost his mask early on - I wonder if that affected the overall length of this match. Nice little showcase of Boss(man's) strength. And the VaderSault is still scary even today.

Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels-Raw August 1, 1994. This was HBK's first televised match since Mania 10 and also Vince's first appearance back on Raw since the Steroid trial and of course Randy Savage makes several mentions of it throughout jokingly.

The over the top rope DQ was bogus, too - but this was during the Jim Herd era, right? Jim Herd ran WCW from shortly after Turner bought the company until January 1992 when Kip Frey was put in charge. Bischoff was the boss in 1994. The over the top rope DQ was enforced in WCW until 1998. The last time I remember it being used was towards the end of 1997 when Lex Luger tossed Buff Bagwell over the top and lost for it on either Nitro or Saturday Night.

Survivor Series 1992.
Ric Flair & Razor Ramon vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect.
Not the best match in terms of workrate (especially given the talent in the ring), but Flair is at his irate best. Speaking of irate, Heenan is furious that Perfect turned on him and Flair and proceeds to turn in one of his best ever commentary shifts, second only to the 92 Rumble in my opinion.

-Sting vs. Vader(Strap Match), Superbrawl III Schiavone/Ventura is an odd pair at the table. Your referee for this match, Nick Patrick (the poor Bastard) I like the "option" they had here with Sting touching the ringposts outside. Nice back and forth displaying Sting's strength and Vader's dominance. I'm a little spoiled by later versions of the match where they had lights on the corners. I do appreciate Tony and Ventura explaining the finer details of a strap match. Tony: "Don't ever confuse being brave with being crazy." Good false finish with Sting, actual finish was kinda hokey. Sting's righteous vengeance cut short for time and how badly Vader was bleeding.

Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio Halloween Havoc 1997 I have never heard a bad thing about this match, and shame on me for not watching it sooner. Tony/Brain/Tenay/Dusty is a pretty heavy table. Your ref for this match, Billy Silverman (the lucky bastard) Mysterio putting some practicality to his Phantom costume by having the mask attached. God Bless Tenay for giving us history on both participants. I didn't know some of the stuff he brought up about Eddie's early career under a mask. Brain: "[Tenay] is there anything you DON'T know?" I've missed the 619 as a setup/evasion move. Tony: "Only one of these men will walk away tonight as a champion" Brain: "The other one will limp." Revolutionary for the time, and holds up today. You can do CW matches with psychology!

Roddy Piper vs Hulk Hogan The War to Settle the Score Had to look this one up on YT. Hogan's pre-show promo ("I'm outta control here") sets an unusual tone for this match. The host for this show is a good reader (studio done with cue cards - this dude was definitely not a fan) skipped some of the festivities, but I wonder how Piper's comment "If you slap me [woman] I will knock you out!" would fly in today's climate. They stretched out half the show with tons of interviews with other wrestlers and people who were relevant to the music industry at the time. Wait, BOB COSTAS? The man who slammed XFL? Someone who occasionally needs a punch in the nuts to be reminded he's a human being? Maybe this is why he's so salty these days. Looks like I got a "live" recording, Hogan coming out to "Eye of the Tiger". WWE wishes they could get raucous reactions like this for some of their title matches. More of a brawl than a wrestling match, which is fine since the commentary is too busy name-dropping. Lots of ga-ga and schmozz to make it an easier night for Hogan and Piper. Stunting like this would cause a REAL riot today.

Andre the Giant vs Hulk Hogan WrestleMania 3 This match produced THE Wrestlemania moment. Many people have seen this "moment" have not actually watched the match. Your referee for this match, Joey Marella (the lucky bastard!) Ventura: "We got 93,000+ on their feet here and I hope my voice holds out!" From a technical standpoint, this is not a pretty match. What keeps the fans enraptured is indeed the mystique of "The irresistible force against the immovable object". Andre didn't have much mobility left at this point in his career, which contributed to the "Dramatic" (sometimes referred to as "Methodical" offense) from Andre. Hogan did most of the "Work" here and helped make that Moment. Say what you will about him now, but he had that whole arena in the palm of his hand.... even if Andre's hand is bigger

Air Raid vs Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper WCW Monday Nitro March 5 2001 Hey, who's that fresh-faced kid from Gainesville, GA with Air Paris? Someone should take a closer look at him Your referee for this match, "Slick" Johnson (back when he was a little more respected). I think I would have enjoyed this match a little more if the cameras could keep up with the action! Scott Hudson brings up NWA Wildside and talks about the Styles/Paris feud. Stuff you wouldn't hear on WWF programming! Some flashes of what to expect from Skipper and AJ once they headed to TNA. Maybe it was too soon for the Fed to pick either of them up when WCW was bought out.

The Undertaker vs Jake Roberts WrestleMania 8 Brain: These [sayings] just come to me! I feel like I've got two brilliant minds Gorilla: ho, boy..... I'm in trouble I believe this was Taker's first WM bout, and Brain had a field day with all sorts of pseudo-horror references and puns, including mixing up the Munsters and the Addams family. Despite that, Brain continues to drive home that you can't put the Deadman down. Brain: (complains about the officiating) Gorilla: Why don't YOU go up there and ref? Brain: I'm needed HERE. Brain: I've never seen anyone get up from 2 DDT's from Jake Gorilla: I've never seen anyone get up from 1 DDT Brain: I rest my case... I mean rest in peace. The beginning of the Streak from this very simple, very easy match for both men.

Daniel Bryan vs William Regal Super Stars November 07, 2011 Had to look this one up elsewhere, Network only has Superstars shows from 2014-2016. ....and where Regal was ribbed with "Real Man's man" in his entrance. Wonderful technical bout, along with the commentary mentioning that DB was going to grow out his beard (which I'm glad he's kept, I think Bryan looks hideous clean-shaven). Josh Matthews and Matt Striker aren't horrible at the table. This match is a hidden gem, and something that should have been on "Real" tv (Raw/SD). Anyone should look this one up on YT or DM

WCW Uncensored 1995 Thankfully this is the opener so hopefully the show went up from here. My next request is the main event of Uncensored 95. Hulk Hogan vs. Vader in a Strap Match. I did say "Good, bad or Ugly, I'd watch it....." I survived the Yapapai strap match in person, I can survive this Brain: This is very, very sad to me, to see Ric Flair [seconding Vader] in this mental state right now. That shows you what Hulk Hogan does to people. What is it with people ripping Vader's mask off? This is like hte third or fourth time I've seen it. Renegade = fake Warrior. Is this the guy people think of when the "Two guys played Ultimate Warrior" theories kick up? Schiavone: "Renegade, Hogan's Ultimate Surprise....." I see what you did there Tony. Referee is smart to get out of the way of this match (though that might be part of the "IT'S UNCENSORED~!!!!" theme) Though Hogan throws the weakest chairshots I've ever seen. So much anger, so much frustration... so much stalling and whipping and schmozzing. Not to mention they couldn't keep the straps connected to either competitor. Hogan wins by strapping himself to Flair and still win the match. VINTAGE WCW! Definitely a match that could have been about 10 minutes shorter. ALMOST worth it for the Randy Savage reveal and AA looking like Curtis Axel when he was all tied up.

Summer Slam 2016 John Cena vs AJ Styles I thought I had reviewed this one - maybe I just watched the match recently. "A match that the WWE Universe never thought they would see". And we were not disappointed. Your referee for this historic match, Charles Robinson (the lucky bastard!) And we're in Brooklyn, so we've got the smarktastic crowd to go with it. Cena is aware of what he's up against and takes a bow to the crowd before the match begins. AJ and Cena have fun with the crowd early during a LOUD cross chant (like Punk and Cena did in Chicago at MITB 2011) Otunga: John Cena's game continues to evolve (after Cena executes a dropkick and tries to pin AJ) Mauro had a sore back having to carry a table with Otunga and JBL. When AJ wrestles anyone, he makes sure his opponent does, too. We saw that earlier this year when he fought Lesnar. Cena broke out several new moves and kept the "You can't wrestle!" chant from the crowd. The sheer intensity of this match is what continues to captivate the crowd, and was a MOTY candidate last year. Cena's "conceding" by leaving his armband behind was a torch passing - one that AJ will milk for a month or two after, then affirming himself as "The Face that Runs the Place"!

Summer Slam 2016 Seth Rollins vs Finn Balor I've made it no secret that I like a little supernatural in my wrestling, and this match is a reminder to Cole's recent, blasphemous comments that the Demon is an "Artistic statement" from Finn. If Wyatt can't be our next Undertaker, I nominate the Demon King! This match is better watched on mute because the crowd was too busy crapping on the recently unveiled belt to enjoy what was going on in the ring. is it sad that on this rewatch I only noticed the Demon's eye wearing a Liberty crown? I watched the camerawork closely when Rollins throws Balor into the barricade and injures his shoulder. I don't remember if myself or my friends who I was watching with had a question about that spot, but big Indie points to Balor to just pop it back in and continue. About 2 minutes later, the camera is off Balor and the ref where there might have been some communication about his shoulder. Finn does favor it through the match from there. I remember hoping against hope for Balor to win, given the rocket they strapped to him from his callup to this match. I didn't think WWE would pull the trigger, and that would have killed the Demon King persona out of the gate. This match rocked. Sad the crowd was bored and wasted their attention on a belt design.
