Last three for the month will be up accordingly. Starting work on the other 31, so maybe they'll be out sooner than January, but we'll see.

Monster Blood III is a bloody mess, and yet, much better than Monster Blood IV iirc.

This is when Stine was hitting his peak. Anyone can write a half decent spooky story about a werewolf. Takes some skill to write a good one about a cuckoo clock or a killer sponge. By the time we reach Book 30, Stine's just put out 8 really good kids books from the last 10 (ignore Monster Blood...). This run extended into the 30s, but by Book 45, a few clunkers had put others in the class off the series, and by the end of the room, it was just me and Mrs Walker reading them, with much of the class moving onto Ghosts of Fear Street.

I only read one Ghosts of Fear Street. That hide and seek one, which was awesome actually. No idea why I didn't bother reading more.

Yeah, the real writers were on the copyright pages for the Ghosts of Fear Street series, or indeed, any which just used his name. I'm surprised more of the Stine output weren't ghost written, to be honest. Dude was writing 2 books a month for close to 5 years at one point, that's insane. I recall an interview circa 1999 where he said at some points he'd give a list of bullet point suggestions ie "how about one about comic books?" and then from it being OK'd he'd have a deadline of ten to twelve days to plot and write the sod. That any of them stand up 20 years is perhaps the biggest miracle here.

This blog is great. Keep up the good work! Right on cue, the BBC have just put up a short interview segment with one of the heroes, other than Retro for this thread.

Oh, christ, the lawn gnomes are next. But then it's A Shocker on Shock Street, one of my faves.

Lawn Gnomes was one I enjoyed as a kid. The idea of evil garden gnomes appealed to me.

Barking Ghost really disturbed me at the time, for some reason. Jellyjam is a good one. Good to see these back.
