New Bordeux? Mafia III? What?
Red Dead and Mafia are in the same universe?

I figured it would have to be a prequel being as how a big part of the first game was how the Wild West era was nearing its end.

Wow...no joke, I just teared up upon reading this news. I love the first game so much, I can't wait to see what they've got to show.

This is the game I'll buy a PS4 for. Also there's apparently a new Jurassic Park game coming that looks awesome too.

I remember when the very first trailer dropped. I've waited years for it, and the day it finally arrived, it was immediately eclipsed by the first trailer for Logan. Stole all its thunder.

2K made the Mafia games, and, like Rockstar, 2K are also a subsidiary of Take-Two. Huh, didn't know that 2K was a subsidiary of them In an interview a couple of years ago Take-Two’s CEO said that going forward the company’s most important franchises for the next decade would be GTA, Red Dead, Max Payne, Mafia, Borderlands, Bioshock, and Bully, so I expect that where appropriate there will be some crossovers between the different franchises. GTA, Red Dead, Bully, Mafia and Max Payne could conceivably all exist in the same universe.

I can't wait for this. Redemption was one of the PS3's best games. Fantastic story, setting, gameplay and characters. It was brilliant.

Honestly the fact that it's a prequel makes me completely disinterested in it. I'll probably still end up getting it and still end up loving it but I'd far rather have a new story than see a bunch of background info I really don't need where the whole time I'm just going, "And then they all kill each other," and the narrative is one of the best parts of the original for me.

I'm all for a prequel. There was a lot to be fleshed out, such as what Dutch's Gang did and how they operated, plus how John had ultimately left the gang. There's also the whole "Wild West" appeal. Not even sure how you can do a sequel to Red Dead Redemption. The main part of it was playing as a remnant of the Old West and how he coped with the increasingly modernized world. Everything basically got wrapped up by the end of the game. Dutch's gang was all killed, John's dead, Abigail's dead, Edgar Ross is dead, and the only thing you could really go from there is playing Jack's story.
