It would be nice if these reveals happened before the person abused their power for decades.
There's surely a lot more skeletons in closets out there. I say blow all those closet doors wide open and clean house.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Old sayings gets old for a reason.

Just finished reading the whole New Yorker article. It's pretty damning, they apparently been working on this story for close to a year and have numerous on the record and name withheld quotes from woman he assaulted or harassed as well as numerous quotes by past Miramax and TWC employees who were aware but did nothing due to fears of being blacklisted.

I get the sentiment, but I also get why people don't want to come forward about these types of things and try to never judge harshly for their choice not to do so.

I say blow all those closet doors wide open and clean house. Much easier said than done. These people are able to build and maintain a power base for a reason and often intimidate and manipulate people, even A-listers like Jolie and Paltrow, into silence. Not to mention that in spite of how progressive Hollywood likes to think itself, it has a serious sexism problem and has for decades. The top grossing women make significantly less than top grossing men. Female directors have it a lot harder than their male counterparts. Roman Polanski is treated like a martyr in some circles. And the response to allegations of Woody Allen raping his stepdaughter was basically "/shrug." Harvey Weinstein is but another symptom of the disease.

Quite frankly, it sounds like all of Hollywood was aware of this. I'm reading more and more that make it sound like it was an open secret there. Speaking out wouldn't have done anything until there was enough people speaking out all at once, he's made a number of these disappear through legal threats and coerced NDA's over the years.

I say blow all those closet doors wide open and clean house. Probably not going to happen, though. Every few years, they'll throw a sacrificial lamb under the bus (Cosby, Weinstein, etc.) and act like all is well, they've un-personed the perv and can go back to business as usual, until the cycle repeats.

This is a world different then Cosby tho. Cosby was a cog in the Hollywood machine. Harvey Weinstein is one of the guys driving the machine. He's not some Jello pushing TV comedian, he's been a megapower in Hollywood for years. Launched numerous careers, and has probably killed even more. Cosby was a dude doing f***ed up shit, this one is actually blowing the door open to systematic rape culture in Hollywood. Yes, I'm aware that "casting couch" rumours have been around since Hollywood began, but I'm struggling to think of a time when this many people, many of them major and influential names, have spoken up about it all at once before

I get it, Chinatown is really freaking great, but the defenses of Roman Polanski drive me up the damn wall. Corruption really grinds my gears, and the sexual predators protecting sexual predators type of corruption makes me the most furious of all. In infects everything - Hollywood, clergy, politics, business. And there doesn't seem to be anything that can be done about it effectively.

He stopped making people money, and under the bus he goes. Hopefully he takes a bunch of others out with him.

Terry Crews is tweeting about the time a Hollywood exec groped him.
And also talking about why people wait before they make accusations.
As sad as it is to say, now that a guy is talking about it, people are more likely to listen.

Linda Fiorentino, Sean Young, Kim Bassinger to a degree, these people were huge stars who just... stopped being stars. The reasons weren't for accusing people, but they got dropped for even less. What makes people think that wouldn't happen to other actresses for talking?
Being in big hits, being a star, it doesn't protect you if people decide to stop working with you. You disappear, and that's not even bringing up getting eviscerated in court with victim blaming and character questioning by defense teams, the cops themselves being, charitably, woefully untrained to deal with sexual assaults, etc, and the court of public opinion that jumps to the conclusion that people want a hand out. It's also a problem of their word versus the accused, rarely with much physical evidence they can rely on, and you have to just hope you have some texts or whatever you didn't delete out of disgust, or some witnesses willing to also put themselves on the line for you.
The deck is stacked against the accuser even when it's some layperson, much less a mogul or deeply-entrenched power player. It's a warm, comforting thought that the truth always wins out, but that's not always the reality. Evidence and accusations have to mount because it gets to be too much to bury easily or dismiss as disgruntled ex-emplouyees, etc.

Everyone who has come out to finally expose this should be celebrated. Damn the c***s who do the acts and no one else.

Jimmy Kimmel is always speaking out against stuff lately. Let's hope he speaks out against this. My guess is no.
