It just makes you wonder how many promising actresses (and actors) and great performances we've missed out on because they chose not to sell their dignity to vermin like Weinstein. It's truly sad to think about.

Considering the story is right after they had their most successful parts of their career, and fell to significantly lower profile roles... it stands to reason that they were negatively affected. And being an A-Lister in Hollywood is for the most part not based on talent, but push. They got jobbed out after main eventing. Not really. Mira Sorvino was never a main eventer at any part of her career, and neither was Ashley Judd. I don't know....Mira Sorvino is debatable, but Ashley Judd had a few solid hits under her belt (Kiss the Girls/Double Jeopardy) in the late 90's, and really could have been a bigger deal than she ended up being. Maybe she would have flamed out regardless once the new batch of "It Girls" came in during the early 2000's, maybe not. However, crossing the Weinsteins pretty much guaranteed that her rise would be halted, as the Miramax duo definitely had the power to make or break people during the late 90's.

Was having pretty much the same conversation with my lady last night. In that I think Judd could have been a huge star. Were as Sorvino would have had a good career but not been a huge star. But who knows what would have happened if these blackballings hadn't happened.

But who knows what would have happened if these blackballings hadn't happened. Mira Sorvino basically got some buzz for letting creepy ass Woody Allen paw on her in Mighty Aphrodite, and other than a minor hit with Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion (which could be argued that Lisa Kudrow was more of the draw, due to FRIENDS), there really wasn't much evidence that she would have been much more than what she ended up being (nothing against Mira, as I thought she was a solid enough actress, but let's be honest). Ashley Judd, yeah, she got screwed. You can look at her filmography, and it's pretty clear that despite being in some solid hits from 1997-2001, she all but vanishes from the scene for several years after 2002, and when she did come back, it was more doing smaller, arty movies like Bug. Once again, this might have been her fate regardless, but it's pretty clear that despite her successes, she just stopped being used in major films after 2001/2002. Regardless, though. It's still horrible that two mafia wannabe, bullying pieces of shit like the Weinstein brothers were allowed to have so much power in regards to people's lives and careers.

Matt Damon's week in review: “Nobody talks about the men who DON’T sexually abuse” Probably because they don’t do bad shit and are normal decent human beings for the most part, outside of possibly not speaking up about stuff as they should. Like, don’t give people a damn parade for not sexually abusing people because that should be a goddamn society standard.

Well this is just heartbreaking... I say this with all due respect to people without post high school educations, but a majority of successful activists have extensive training and an education surrounding it. They realize their words matter and the power of them. Rose McGowan has no idea what she is doing and does not care. I get what happened to her sucks, but she is putting herself on a platform and has not only discredited the movement at times, but seriously hurt a ton of innocent people (not just jill) along the way because they do not believe in her form of activism. Social activists understand that more harm comes to your movement if you act polarizing and put yourself on a soap box. This seems to be lost on Rose, as she acts like a moron and calls out anyone who may have slightly annoyed her, including many other female activists who have not done a single thing to her. Someone is now dead because of Rose, and she likely will not take responsibility for her online bullying antics.

By the family's own admission, Jill had other issues, and we don't know if the story her family is putting out is factually correct (just like we don't know if Rose's is factually correct). I'm not saying it's not a factor; it probably was, amongst other things, and Rose absolutely doesn't take the best approach to activism. But I think saying someone is dead because of her is going too far.

Someone is now dead because of Rose, and she likely will not take responsibility for her online bullying antics. Yeah it's something I worry about too. Like you said what happened to Rose was wrong. What happened to her should have never happened to anybody. Also I do think it's a positive thing that these women are coming forward to call out the assaults and bs they had to live with for many years. I sympathize because of the anguish and pain Rose and many of these women had to endure. I do have a concern, however, that some of the tactics end up harming people. Cyber bullying isn't as bad as what some of these sexual assault victims had to deal with, but there are real life consequences of people taking to twitter to blast someone. People like Jill or August Ames are dead, arguably, because of the antics of people. You can argue that the deceased had mental health issues and that played more into their final decisions (both women were bi-polar). While that is true, I think this is just another example of how the internet has become more of an echo chamber that doesn't lead to positive dialogue on issues.
