Really good first episode. Only downside, they bought back the celebrity interview segments from Top Gear.
Hated Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, don't really give a toss about a dull interview with a dull celebrity guest and I don't think The Grand Tour needs it. Just spend the 10-15 minutes on something else. The lap been in a sports car was better than it been in a boring, regular car though. Was still quite boring though.

This isn't Dragonball GT at all.

So we’re well over half-way through this series and it’s been pretty good so far. They really have addressed a lot of issues from Series 1 and even took on the “it’s too staged” criticisms in a very Clarkson way. But thought I’d mention that this week has a pretty interesting Celebrity Face-off. It’s Anthony Joshua vs Bill Goldberg. Should be fun to see those two trying to fit inside that car.

Hit or miss for me.
First episode was great, 2 was good, Jags was solid. Unscripted was shit, 3 and 5 weren't very good.
3-3 for me, with Unscripted been one of worst TGT or TG episodes I've seen.

Very good appearance by Goldberg I thought - he really seemed to get into it and was having a lot of fun with it, which came across well I think.
The Lancia film at the end was excellent - Clarkson is really good at putting together this type of segment.

For all Clarkson’s faults, (and he has many) when it comes to stories like that he is very good at making things he is passionate about. He presented a fantastic documentary about the WW2 Arctic Convoys a few years ago. He’s still a prick though!

Just finished episode 7. It was a lot of fun. My favourite Conversation Street yet, really funny stuff. Goldberg was a good guest too, funny guy. He came across well.

Lots of stories going round now that Amazon will not be renewing the contract after Series 3. Not surprising really, it’s brought in a lot of revenue for Amazon but it costs a fortune to make.
I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple of years Clarkson, Hammond and May are back hosting Top Gear on the BBC.

Considering Clarkson’s hosting the Who Wants to be a Millionaire specials, it could be a backdoor thing for getting a Top Gear style show on ITV. Because one thing ITV are world class at is getting ex BBC talent, paying them massive contracts and doing expensive shows with them.

Because TGT doesn't need a big budget to be a success. The main reason people watch is for the chemistry between the 3 presenters.

Because TGT doesn't need a big budget to be a success. The main reason people watch is for the chemistry between the 3 presenters. They already cut the number of episodes for Series 2 although that was mostly down to Hammond’s crash and Clarkson being ill. I have always agreed that the reason Top Gear was so popular was because of the three guys dicking around and yes, they didn’t need a lot of money to do so. But now they’ve made two of the most gorgeous looking series ever (I thought Top Gear looked good until I saw The Grand Tour) it’ll be hard to get away from that. And I’ve started to watch Top Gear again. I’m not the biggest fan of Matt LeBlanc but the show has definitely improved massively since they had Chris Evans shouting his way through the first series without the old trio. They’ve finally stopped trying so hard and realised it’s more about the three guys cocking around. It’s not a patch on the glory days of Top Gear but even before Clarkson’s final indiscretion, the sun was already starting to set on the show, Andy Willman admitted as much a few years before Clarkson’s “fracas”. The new trio have saved that show but it’s not the worldwide juggernaut it was under the old guard and it won’t be until they get them back. They won’t come cheap and there will be a lot of pissed off licence payers but I think it’s inevitable they’ll return back to the Beeb. And if they don’t, they should let James May come back and do more Toy Stories and Reassemblers because those shows were fantastic.

Good idea. The road trips are always the most fun. Not just the exotic location ones, but the UK ones like the Leyland challenge were great too.
I'd love to see a China and Australia road trip. I don't think they've done much there in TG or TGT.

That looks amazing. Not the cars or the plot but the actual look of the show. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, the production values on this show are possibly the best there is.

It really does, and I'm glad they've finally embraced what was, for me at least, the show's strongest aspect - Hammond, Clarkson, and May cocking around on a road trip in some far-flung place. The three of them had outgrown the premise of Top Gear long before they left, so let that show have the market for car news and reviews and concentrate on entertainment.

And it looks they will be modifying relatively new and top end cars.
Usually when they modify a vehicle for a challenge it’s something old and close to the end of their time on the road that they bought really cheap from a used car lot, or classified ad.
