Even better -- Rice last played for the Broncos. After he made the team, he chose to retire as he wanted to prove to himself he was still good enough to play. Which, if true, is a total egomaciac move by Rice. Not only do you dick around the team who may want you for other reasons (mentoring, jerseys) with no intentions of playing, you also take away a roster spot from another guy who is there to play and get a paycheck. Proving you're still good enough to play one would think, would be actually playing out the year. Not some silly stunt to yourself that you're friggin awesome. That really brings Rice down a notch to me, because I've always been a fan. You can go back to liking Rice, because Brody is just flat out wrong. Rice did not make the team. Shanahan called him into the office to let him know he wasn't gonna make the team and let Rice retire instead of being cut. Where Brody got his story from is beyond me.

How about Roger Clemens pitching in his 50s? No, I am not making this up. 10 years ago or so, ESPN produced a clip in which a 70-plus-year old Roger Clemens saying to the MLB commissioner that he wants to pitch.

Benard Hopkins getting knocked out of the ring earlier this year was just sad. I sometimes feel like guys being good very late in their career is a detriment because they feel more justified that they can keep doing it way after people think they can. B-Hop kept Father Time down for SO long that he thought he could beat him. Always better to walk away with your hand raised and some gas left in the tank than to get knocked out of the ring in your 50s.
