My fondest memory of Doc was his no-hitter in the playoffs. I really hope he goes into the Hall. It's a damn shame he won't see his induction if it happens.

Just awful. Whenever he pitched for the Phils, you just believed they were winning that day. The perfect game and playoff no-hitter were such great moments and Doc was just a class-act human being. Such a tragedy.

I am truly saddened by this news. I remember more than an hour ago hearing about his plane crashing and a dead body being found........I was filled with dread, as if I knew it must be him. He was a great Blue Jay and it was one of the few times I was okay with someone I liked becoming a member of a Philadelphia team (since I hate Philly). I really wanted him to get that World Series and I was saddened when he was so close, but ultimately the Yankees won.
Roy may have spent his last playing days as a member of the Phillies, but he signed the one day deal so he could retire as a Blue Jay. To hear his passing and in the unnatural way in the matter of dying so young that has killed plenty of baseball players we know, it sucks. This year has caused us to lose Darren Daulton and now Roy Halladay, not a good year for guys who were even so brief (like Daulton with the Marlins) to be on teams I rooted for.

Just awful tragic news. Like most Canadians who reside outside of Ontario who tend to only follow The Blue Jays if they are good, this really stings. He was one of Canada's favorite adopted sons and this is just terrible.
RIP

Copied over from the MLB thread...
I own only one lettered baseball jersey: It's a baby blue Blue Jays Roy Halladay from his last season in Toronto - the year they started wearing the classic uniforms every Sunday home game.
Roy Halladay was always my favourite pitcher. He's a guy who worked his ass off to get to where he was. He struggled early in his career, went back down to the minor leagues and earned his place in baseball. He earned every single thing he had. And most of all, he was a class act off the field. I remember when he was traded to Philly, he took out a full page ad in Toronto newspapers to thank the fans. He made such a great impression on me specifically and Toronto in general.
There won't ever be another Doc. RIP.

Sad. Far too young to be gone so soon

Yeah it's a sad day in baseball. I'd give anything to have Doc back. I can hear Harry Kalas now. "And look who's coming to the Gates! The big man, the gunslinger, Roy Halladay!" God I'm gonna miss him..

Sick to my stomach. This one got to me. Only 3 celebrity/athletes have gotten to me.
Owen. Eddie. Roy.
Thank you for the memories. Got to see his last game in a Jays uniform and it was fantastic.

FiveThirtyEight has a great article showing just how dominant Halladay was which you can find here. My favorite stat from the article - he is currently tied for the third most complete games by a pitcher this decade in which he only pitched three full seasons.

If you want your blood to boil, Boston sports radio personality Michael Felger absolutely went off on Roy Halladay during his radio show on 98.5 The Sports Hub this afternoon. www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2017/11/08/michael-felger-roy-halladay-death-got-what-deserved/xWYAkKFce7Go7EEhIFl2fO/story.htmlThe audio is in the link. He says that Halladay "got what he deserved" for taking his plane on a "joyride." His rant also included repeated mocking of Halladay and the word "splat." Oh, and if you were wondering, he also said that he rooted "for the wall" in Dale Earnhardt's death. Saying "That ain’t no tragedy ... And then you crash into the wall? And I’m supposed to feel bad for you? Give me a break."

You're basically advertising for him right now, including a link for people to listen to him do what he does for a living. You're being manipulated.

How exactly did Roy die? If the water was shallow, the impact couldn't have been that bad.
