Someone should probably check the temperature in hell... or if Mister Pigwell has sprouted wings We have documented proof that the Battle Angel movie that has been in production for like two decades actually exists. From that teaser I guess we'll see more of a trailer tomorrow.

Jesus Christ, I remember reading about Cameron doing this on aintitcoolnews.com since I was in high school. I like Robert Rodriguez...a lot. But I'm also always skeptical of his stuff.

I know Cameron knows how to market shit, I know it's a passion project and all, but man I just do not see how on earth one could possibly justify giving this thing a $200 million production budget. By the time you factor in distribution costs and the like there is absolutely no way this is making its money back.

Yeah, Battle Angel Alita is a great manga but it's not a gigantic cultural phenomenon which could justify a 200 million budget. It might make enough to break even if it has a phenomenal marketing campaign but holy shit are those long odds.

As someone who only ever saw the OVA, it's going to stick in my craw that they're going with "Alita" and not "Gally".

I've been re-reading the entire thing it and I can adapt going from Alita in the original manga to Gally in Last Order no problem. I'm still absolutely sure I will hate this.

If we're being anal about it, it was "Gally" in the original manga too, and for some reason the English publishers changed it in localization...

Yeah I know, I was reading the Viz published translation. Strangely they still use the Gally name for Ido's cat in one of the side-stories.

I like this kind of robo/scifi stuff and hopefully it won't be a complete misfire like GitS but maaaaan everything Cameron has touched since the late 80s has been really boring to me.
Except True Lies.
Rodriguez is another director who I think is cool but aside from Lucha Underground and his wink-at-the-camera grindhouse stuff, he's not really done much lately to make me that enthused for yet another manga adaptation with zero Japanese actors in it even if they're being replaced by mainly Latinx performers....
I dunno - it has potential but based on all parties involved I'm very unsure about it right now.

trailer is up - not digging the creepy overly anime cgi eyes on her face.
Other than, looks like ....eh.
I'd honestly prefer if they just went full mo-cap/cgi at this point. Her face being so....anime....was completely unnecessary to me.

...I....actually kind of like the look of this.
It's got enough interesting bits where I'd go see it and I like the look it's going for.
Also, I like the fact she looks different from everyone else. Whilst the other robots seem to be more...well, human, she is an older model (I'm guessing, have zero reference to the source material) so of course she'd look a bit different.

For better or for worse she literally looks like Alita as presented in the source. Big doe eyes and small mouth included.

Nope.
Nopenopenope.
That stuff with the CG-enlarged eyes is "HEY KID, I'M GOING TO EAT YOU IN YOUR SLEEP" horrifying.

hmm the live action anime eyes on her is going to take some getting used to... and the cg on this is not great Alita herself looks really artificial... and not in a "she looks like a robot" way. (but it's a trailer it's probably not fully cooked yet)
don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other.

Looks great ..but the dimensons of her face mixed in the real actors around her is a little scary though.
Very true to its source material atleast on the asthetic side.
I have said it before that it may take just one amazing anime adaption to start a trickle down effect that could eventually challenge the superhero bubble....maybe this is the one that starts it.
