Well, I kinda like the look. Thing is... you can't really tell that that is supposed to be a post apocalyptic world in what's basically the world's biggest scrapyard with the population being mostly robots made out of junk. They all (by that I mean Zapan and Makaku since the rest are mostly humans and that mutant cyborg lady that's supposed to be the first enemy) look like just another Hollywood cyborg basically.
At no point do we see Alita's trademark tan stripes under her eyes, so that's a bummer. In fact, the other thing that really bothers me about her is that it's clearly that she's fighting Makaku underground with her first body (since we can see the decorations on her arms) instead of her berserker body.
Also, Ido doesn't seem to have his mark (that other character played by Jennifer Connelly did have something though. And who's she supposed to be really? That mutant cyborg woman?), so I doubt we'll hear anything about the main antagonist of the series (Desty Nova) which is a plus in case this is a one and done.
Other than that, unfortunately, we can already see it trying to be more "Hollywood": the whole "you're special". Yeah sure, Ido at the beginning was a bit like "oh I'm gonna make you the prettiest daughter ever!" and Alita has always been portrayed as unique... but this is never really stated; Hugo looks like random jerk boyfriend #210837213 when he's supposed to be a wide-eyed innocent kid who's doing terrible things for his dreams and is determined to follow them (and that is was what made Alita fall for him); also he's not supposed to know parkour or have any sort of athletic prowess (much less a futuristic looking bike that kinda looks like the one from DBEvo) and actually use his street smarts to get out of tough spots; the whole thing with Makaku seems way too handfisted in there just to give the cool visuals and fight scene that should come with it instead of flowing more or less naturally in the story as the first big mark on Alita's hunter career.
So yeah, I expected a distilled, clean, non-threatening adaptation of a manga that aside from gore doesn't have that much threatening to do.
And if you guys think I only have negatives... well, whoever cast Mahershala Ali as Vector deserves a medal. I buy him immediately.
(yeah, I'm going in this as a BIG fan since we're talking about an adaptation of my favorite manga of all time, so excuse me for being the nit-picker this time)

So...so close to getting it right. When I saw the thumbnail I thought they decided to make this a cgi movie. But apparently they want something to stick out like a sore thumb(or eye). And you know what makes this choice to make her cgi even more confusing? The actress kind of already resembled Alita! If I look past the very obvious, maybe it'll be good.

The stupidest thing is that the gigantic eyes were just unnecessary. They made her skin look like plastic and her hair impossibly shiny by CGI, those elements already nail the look but the gigantic eyes are just a little too far.

This is basically "add googly eyes to everyone: the movie".

This is basically "add googly eyes to everyone: the movie". not even everyone. Only Alita has had her face anime'd. If it was everyone it would... well it would still be jarring... but it would be less out of place.

I don't watch anime, or read manga. So when I saw this I was intrigued by the eyes. It tried to look like the art.
Something thats not happened before to my knowledge. Was curious how people who did read would react. Inteigued by the divisive nature of it.

Yeah, she has the biggest eyes out of everyone in the manga, but otherwise it's rather tame, very 80's. The actress's natural eyes would suffice as they're big already. For comparison, Alita: Regular anime eyes:

For comparison, Alita: Regular anime eyes: it also works better because everyone is heavily stylized in the manga. Alita is the only one that seems to have gotten the treatment in the movie.

You think her eyes are crazy in size, wait until they do the live action Sailor Moon movie.

So turns out in Japan they're releasing this under the Alita title and with her called that. Because why not go ahead and kneecap this thing in one of the main potential markets for it when they have a hopelessly inflated budget.

Don’t ask my why but I always pictured Zappan’s armor being red and white and his hair blonde. And Makaku bring purple.

Well I pictured Makaku’s face being a corpse kind of gray, the maggot form being alternating white and purple, and the power body brown and green. To each their own.

Well, there's also that cover or wtv. with Alita's black body suit in red. She would go on to actually use red stuff in her Last Order outfits, so yeah, to each his own.

Don’t really have any knowledge of the manga, and the eyes are weird, but I thought the trailer was excellent. Lot of good talent involved, if they think it’s worth their time there’s a good chance it is.

They've been running a lot of ads for this during Steven Universe tonight. Kind of surprised they're even bothering to advertise it honestly since I have a very hard time seeing it making its money back.
