For all his awful faults the guy knows how to make a movie, so I wonder why he wants an idea that sounds like a shitty Mad TV sketch

I'd rather see a batshit crazy R-rated James Bond set in the 60s that Quentin said he wanted to do. This would be tremendous!

If it was in the Mirror Universe maybe, or the Maquis, or some random freighter.
Regular Starfleet itself, even at it's darkest is too clean cut for him, and it'd be weird to change that.
Star Wars would be a better fit, there's already seedy enough bits of the universe established so it wouldn't be so jarring.

It definitely couldn't be the prime universe because of the weird rights situation after Old Viacom split between CBS (who owns the TV rights) and Viacom (who owns the movie rights). So either Tarantino's movie is in the Kelvin timeline or he goes in a completely different direction.

He couldn't have done much worse than JJ Abrams did.

Just get the Beyond director back. He did a great job.

Just get the Beyond director back. He did a great job. I'll reluctantly give credit where it's due, their Motion Picture inspired poster is cool.

Just get the Beyond director back. He did a great job. He did, but he's solidly booked for the next three years - he's currently working on Fast & Furious 9, then he's diving straight into Fast & Furious 10. Besides, this was likely a stand-alone akin to how the Joker movie is unconnected to the rest of DC's lineup. Noah Hawley is signed on to write and direct the fourth movie. He's done a good job on Fargo and Legion, so it should be interesting.

I had little faith in a Tarantino Star Trek so it's probably for the best if it's shelved.

So basically Tarantino's big idea for a Star Trek film is an adaptation of the final level of the Star Trek NES game. Sure, why not?

How about we do a DS9 movie with the Borg as the bad guys, since Sisko never really got even with them over the death of his wife? I'd cast Mike Colter as Sisko, he looks almost exactly like Avery Brooks. Or if I wanted some box office go with Will Smith even if it meant Jaden got to play Jake Sisko. Liam Neeson as Odo.

Sounds like he's avoiding making a scifi film by setting it in a time period.

Sounds like he's avoiding making a scifi film by setting it in a time period. If you don't want to make a sci fi film then don't make a Star Trek film. Seems pretty simple to me.

So its a movie both not playing to the strength of the franchise's films and is somehow derivative of a Piece of the Action:
