If Vince want's ratings he needs to lure big match John out of Hollywood and onto the gridiron 10 years ago? Sure! Now? Cena's too banged up to do that.

That documentary they did of the XFL recently must have gotten the cogs turning in his brain again. Lot less room for failure this time around, though. They were lucky that such a moneysink happened to coincide with their most profitable era of wrestling ever. That's just crazy talk. Business is better than ever!

He wants his company to be a big cross brand media like Disney. The recent Fox buyout must have really got Vince’s desire to pursue this more. But the problem is whether you like the Disney product or not.. they know what people want. They didn’t become this giant Empire for making cartoons that were only entertaining to Walt. Unlike WWE, it’s Vince’s way or the highway every time. "People love Frozen, let's put a 20 minute Frozen short in front of Coco. People will love that." *Coco opens, and the Frozen short isn't exactly popular* "People hate the Frozen short in front of Coco? Well shit, pull the short before it damages 2 properties, one of which is already a huge money maker for us." The short was always intended as a limited run thing. It wasn't Disney listening to the audience.

If it runs on the Network, they won't have to worry about low ratings killing it.

You know what I think, and I honestly think this is the case. Vince got jealous of HHH's "NXT Experiment" and reading the foreword on my JUST RECEIVED "NXT: The Future Is Now" coffee-table book I got from WWE.com's Black Friday deal it's highly apparent that Vince wishes he would have had the idea for NXT when he tried to do the XFL. HHH basically one-upped the Old Man, and now Vince feels like he's been backed into a corner to prove he's still The Authority on innovation in Sports Entertainment, and that anything Hunter can do Vince can do better. As friendly as familial competition can get in the McMahon Dynasty.
So. Vince destroyed the territories wrestling system. Hunter destroyed the independent wrestling system. Vince is perhaps gonna try to create a new market for a new wrestling territory. With the net neutrality (hope this doesn't count as politics if so please censor mods) being vetoed streaming entertainment providers are gonna start racking up the costs on all of their online binging services, I would bet even the WWE Network will have to alter its pricing scheme eventually.
I think Vince wants to create another rival for his company just like NXT kinda was a rival to WWE main-- but this time it's fully On Demand and on a completely different distribution model with an emphasis on Live Events. The "new X" show (c'mon, we all know the next company will have an 'X' in its name as per Vince's tendencies) I think he wants to invite people like Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega, anybody from NJPW or ROH or Anthem/TNA or anywhere else to wrestle in live televised shows streaming online in Anwhere, U.S.A./India/UK/Japan/etc. to circumnavigate non-complete clauses, and essentially marry the entire umbrella of professional wrestling into one WWE conglomerate. You can keep WWE Main (RAW/SDLive/NXT/205/UK Division) as a separate entity while still ramping up the interest in pro wrestling around the world with these series of live events (it would have to be as regular as UFC does their ppvs).
I think it's a brilliant strategy, but just as risky as the XFL was.

Lighting a couple hundred million dollars on fire would be a better idea for Vince than starting a new football league. Like, it is such a terrible idea that I can't believe that's what's happening.
It'd be one thing if Vince had Jeff Bezos money, and he could set up a league that could compete for players with the NFL, but he doesn't. Not by a long shot. So, he'd need to go to guys that can't make it in the NFL, and then you get one of the XFL's big problems - shitty football. And let's be honest, Vince isn't going to be the person to give a job to the one guy that is NFL caliber but not in the NFL.
And, much of Vince's worth is tied up in his ownership of WWE. For him to even be able to have the funds to pay for that shitty football league, he'd need to sell a significant portion of his stake in WWE.
AND, given that Vince already has legal issues regarding CTE, getting into FOOTBALL is not the greatest idea to avoid more such legal issues.
AND, in a time when powerful men are starting to be held accountable for their sexually predatory behavior, let's just say that VINCE MCMAHON is not someone who should be trying to get the spotlight put on him.
It's an impossibly stupid idea.

If they actually wanted to participate in a startup league to threaten the NFL, there actually is a decent opportunity in the upcoming years. The NFL and NFL Players Association are heading for a major showdown in the next couple of years over contracts. The NFLPA wants guaranteed contracts (like all other major American sports) in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement. That will be so expensive for the owners that the only way it likely even comes close to being implemented is with a prolonged players strike that actually causes games to be missed. This hasn't happened in over 30 years. If there were a strike that threatened a season, a new league could swoop in an try to attract rookies to come to the new league. Since the 2011 NFL/NFLPA CBA, the rookie wage scale has caused rookies and young players, particularly high draft choices, to be grossly underpaid (relative to their value if they were allowed to negotiate like free agents). If the new league came in and offered the top graduating college players contracts that are double or more than what they'd get in the NFL (which is not as ridiculous as it sounds) they could steal an entire draft class and get them in the new league. Then if they were playing games while the NFL was off, they'd have a chance to get a TV partner and some real market share.
With all that being said, it's still highly unlikely to work in the long term. At this point, many of the most popular teams in the NFL are so ingrained in the culture of their fans that people would never leave them. Asking me and most of the sports fans in Wisconsin to watch some new team over the Green Bay Packers is akin to suggesting that we celebrate some newly invented holiday instead of Christmas. The NFL would eventually adjust, and the new league would just have to hope to have a merger that involves some of their teams getting a chance to join the league. Likely won't happen. If the USFL couldn't compete with the NFL, it's likely impossible at this point.

Vince buying an American football team seems more likely. It was team interest that eventually led to the XFL's creation, and any league Vince tried to start now would have XFL failure stink all over it anyway. Another thing to consider though. Vince and his dad were both involved with boxing for a while. Hmm. That is true, and Vince himself helped provide production and promotion for the infamous Ali/Inoki fight which eventually lead to PPV as it is now. It's trying to find out where he'd fit in because it's not like people are going to choose Alpha over someone like Golden Boy for boxing representation without a really good reason. Maybe Vince takes a shot with MMA? Only problem is where he'd fit there too. He's not exactly going to buy someone like BAMMA. Vince tried being involved with boxing himself with the Sugar Ray Leonard fight in 1988, and it was one of his first failures. Likewise, American football teams are SO EXPENSIVE Vince wouldn't have a prayer at buying an American football team. If WWE's worth $2.5 billion right now as it is, Vince would have to sell the WWE outright to get the funds to buy an NFL team, and even if he did, he'd MAYBE get to be a minority owner. MAYBE. And all of Vince's skeletons in his closet (the sexual harassment claims, his not believing in CTE, the steroid trials...hell, even just the NFL owners not wanting the 'RASSLIN guy as one of them) would likely mean he'd fail to buy into a team. If Vince is buying a pro sports team, I'd say all the pieces would fit that Vince is buying an NHL team: -Vince McMahon cut his teeth on a minor league hockey team in Cape Cod (heck, his first business partner came from the hockey world.) -NHL teams are relatively inexpensive (well, as pro sports teams go), and Vince could get an NHL team being worth $2.5 billion with less of a problem and not have to sell the WWE to do it. -The line for the XFL before was "If Vince McMahon went into pro hockey with the XFL attitude, he probably would have been a success." -There's a number of NHL teams that either are or could be on the market, as well as the NHL having expanded to 31 teams right now and thus seemingly being ripe for a second expansion to get to 32 teams. -Hartford is considered by many as a very appealing potential relocation candidate in the NHL. As a Connecticut billionaire, Vince McMahon would have to be considered a good ownership candidate or member of an ownership group to try and bring the Hartford Whalers back to the NHL.

The whole purpose of this secondary company is to ensure the stock price won’t tank, but I still think it’s going to.
Shareholders will be furious that the CEO isn’t fully concentrated on WWE matters and the kind of venture that Vince is getting into will make people wonder, as well.
What’s interesting, also, is that he’s doing this at a time when the share price is grossly overvalued. This looks to be a terrible idea.

I'm not counting this one out. Given the current political climate in this country and the way the NFL was dragged front and center in this continuing culture war, this is a shrewd business move by Vince imo. If he becomes the guy who says "Let's Make Football Football Again," mandates standing for the anthem, gets looser on player safety, and places these teams in spots where that kind of branding goes over well, he's got himself a decent chance to making a dent in the NFL machine. Not a sizeable one, but a sliver of that pie is still a lot of cashola. If 2017 has taught us anything, it's that if you can trick people into believing that you're with them while not expressly espousing their beliefs, you can exploit their nearsightedness in tribalism to the tune of stacks and stacks of cash. Call Vince what you want, but the dude understands the hustle to make that dollar. This is a risk, but it is in a monumentally better place to succeed than the original launch in 2001. That's terrific, and if that turns out to be what he actually wants to do, it guarantees that I'll have nothing to do with it, and will be actively making sure it fails. Hopefully, this latest bit of insanity will finally be what takes Vince down.
