Home Alone 2 on probably NES. Probably played games that were just as bad, but this marked the first time I recognized a game as being terrible. Usually if I rented something I'd play it the whole weekend, but with this I couldn't force myself past the first area.

X-Men for the NES. I could barely understand what was going on, and maneuvering the character was frustrating.

Especially the SNES version. As bad as the Arcade and Genesis versions were at least they were at least playable and had that 90's cheese factor. The Super Nintendo version on the other hand had poor controls, horrid graphics, missing fighters, no regenerating health between levels and worst of all NO CONTINUES!

Wrestlemania 21 on the Xbox. It was so bad I played it for 20 minutes, and then took it back.

I'll second Rise Of The Robots. I remember renting it at Blockbuster, thinking it was going to be the sickest thing ever. Cool looking robots, it's a fighting game, and Brian May from Queen was doing the soundtrack. There's no way this game can't be awesome, right?
Right?
...r...right?

Outside of some unplayable Atari stuff, my gut reaction to this was oddly "Lethal Weapon" for the SNES. I was subjected to Shaq-Fu as a youngster when I requested fighting games one Xmas.

I’ll add to the Superman 64 chorus, but I have another one:
I remember being 8 or 9 or however old I was and I was at Blockbuster on a Friday night and I was looking through games to rent. An employee walks over and says, “Hey, do you like The Simpsons? We just got a new game in” and he hands me Bart vs. The Space Mutants.
Well, shit. I had to rent that because I was obsessed with The Simpsons. That game, folks, was not good. It was not good at all. I distinctly remember not making it out of the first level.
Now, not every Simpsons game was bad. The next game, Bart vs. The World was okay, Simpsons Arcade Game was a lot of fun, I liked Bart’s Nightmare and Simpsons: Hit and Run was a classic. Bart vs. The Space Mutants was not...not even close.

Mostly wrestling games really. In particular Simpsons Wrestling and this: I wouldn't touch ANY game from Phoenix with a 60 foot pole, but then again, they are all European releases and wouldn't work on my PS2 anyway (Unless I got it modded). The artwork on the covers look wretched and having seen screenshots of them, I even saw how bad the visuals looked that I am sure the gameplay wasn't much better.

Deadly Towers for the NES. The grades were in the D-minus range and the gameplay matched up.

Wrestlemania 21 for Xbox is the most dysfunctional and glitchiest WWE game ever. Yes, even moreso than the recent WWE2K games.

SNES Pit Fighter, Rise of The Robots, and Shaq Fu.
On PS4, Pier Solar HD, and here's why I don't like it: There are important missable items like spellbooks, areas you can't return to later (similar to Final Fantasy 2), long, difficult battles, and an annoying three-trial Magic School minigame that you have to complete to advance the story. You can't save between the trials, either. I had to give up on the game after that.

Mine is a pretty obscure Spectrum budget game from about thirty years ago called 'LA SWAT'. The front cover shows a moustachioed, sunglasses and cap wearing SWAT officer brandishing a machine gun and ready to fight crime. As a twelve year old, this was enough to sway me that it would be a good game.
The reality was three stick men walking vertically - and awkwardly - up a badly drawn city landscape, shooting in unison (you controlled all three of them simultaneously) at different coloured stick men who were the bad guys. The final battle was much the same, only with slightly more different coloured stick men. I think I played it twice, with the second time only being to try and convince myself it wasn't as bad as I thought it was.
I was wrong.
