I'm not overly concerned that Finn'll never get that title again - if there's a brain stem in anyone at WWE HQ (which at this point I doubt,) he will. I'm more concerned that he'll be injured again - through no fault of his own - or become completely disillusioned with the whole business before he has a chance to help build another promotion into actual contention for WWE's spot. Seriously, how f***ing incompetent do you have to be as an executive of a publicly-traded company to have Fergal "breaks the Internet until the NSA server has a screaming, crying, pleading-to-God orgasm" Devitt on your roster, but you pass on him for main-event status because you don't like that he's not from the good ol' US of A and he's not a freak of nature according to _your_ parameters? What kind of Mickey Mouse operation are you running when you see the crowd reactions towards the guy upon his return, when you have to rely on his appearances on TV to keep 400K people glued to your otherwise lacklustre product, when his presence on the card guarantees a sellout on a house show, when fans consistently buy his merch (and not just the one T-shirt, but everything with that logo on it or variations thereof), but you have him looking like a chump against Local Man Kane as punishment for Bray Wyatt getting sick shortly after Wyatt shows up in drag on the TitanTron and back to squash matches against the Miztourage and Curt f***ing Hawkins?
Finn's become the Toronto Maple Leafs with WWE as Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. f***ing Bucky Beaverteeth.

So far none of the former Universal champions have received a rematch for the title, actually. "Guys, you're entitled to an automatic rematch clause..." "Nah mate, it looks like girls' jewellery. I will pass"

Was just about to post this. All former champions had different situations following their loss. Unless they're going to specify this title doesn't have an "automatic" rematch clause, it really doesn't make sense. Please Kurt, make this an official rule. If he does that the first raw of 2018 it'll remain the moment of the Year unless the mean street posse show up. God, yes. I am so done with the rematch clause, especially on NXT when they have like five shows a year for f***'s sake.

It’s one of their story tropes they love to use because they have it for the next event, not because they actually want to make stories from it.

It’s one of their story tropes they love to use because they have it for the next event, not because they actually want to make stories from it. It's also made it so that the title matches are cheaper than they used to be - it's the opposite of interesting to me, because either the old champion gets the strap back which means the middle reign may as well not have happened, or they retain which is just a less interesting finish and not at all surprising one week or one day into a title reign. It's just so rare that there's anywhere interesting to go with it.
